Muskmelon Bay

Do charter companies allow you to go to Muskmelon Bay now? I've read that there are now mooring balls there? It looks beautiful. Has anyone snorkeled there?

Are you looking at the "Where the Coconuts Grow" website? She does make it look pretty amazing.

In general, that website makes me a little light-headed to be honest because they are really living an incredible dream.

There are moorings in Muskmelon Bay now. Shhhhh, don't tell anyone. Haven't seen them yet ourselves, but we stayed in White Bay on our last trip and the mooring fee collector mentioned there were some balls around the corner, pointing in that direction. We had some rather loud neighbors that parked just upwind of us in an otherwise empty field. As it was minutes to sunset, we elected to just move to another ball further away, but it sounds like a beautifully quiet spot that we intend to visit on our next trip.

One bay over from White Bay on GUANA (so Monkey Point vicinity).

Yep, next bay around the corner to the north of white bay on Guana.

Muskmelon is north of White Bay. Monkey Point is south of White Bay. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

To answer fstorms, yes, I read about Muskmelon Bay on the Where the Coconuts Grow website. I got so sucked it, I couldn't stop reading. Thanks for all the input everyone. I'm excited to try this location when we come at the end of April.

Shore access for dinghy? Swell? Any hiking trails that you can get to easily? Snorkelling? Thanks

I would say a swell is likely that far out. Are they overnight or NPS mooring balls?

Private island. Beach access only. Probably vulnerable to a north swell. Haven't snorkled that area but geologically it should be pretty good for coral formations.

Years back I noticed a boat anchored there and being the nosey type - always looking for the next secret spot I headed over to take a look. Once I got within earshot I got a earful from the gal on the boat that there was only room for one boat and no where else to anchor in the area. There seemed to be a small sandy spot she was anchored in. So not to be deterred, and the sun was high, I scoped out the area for other sandy spots all the way back to Iguana Head. Pretty much all coral or rock. With the winds from the East and no swell it was a pretty nice spot but it's never worked out that I went back again. Now that there are moorings it might be nice when conditions are right but I'm not so sure what percentage of the time they would be as it's fairly exposed.

Overnighted there 4 years ago on a cat before mooring balls - only place to anchor is in northeast corner -- took several tries to get the anchor in a small sandy area, near shore and back-winding a problem so glad they put balls in the area to protect the coral -- snorkeling good, great sunset spot.....

They are overnight balls. Not sure how many. As Glenn mentioned, Guana is a private island, so no going ashore, but I believe it's a sandy beach and you are allowed to walk up to the tide line.

Curious whether or not the charter companies will "redline" this bay. If you are gonna go there overnight, you better know if any swell is coming in the middle of the night!
