Our trip - Restaurant Reviews! - 03/25/2015 02:42 PM

My trip reports tend to be long, so I thought I'd break out where we ate and what we thought of the food, etc. Here’s my restaurant run down from our trip. We were a party of 6 adults. I had my cc receipts handy so I thought I’d include the tabs because I see some folks on here looking for an idea of food costs, reasonable places to eat, etc. Hope this is helpful!

STT Airport – Island Breeze Café: we had a 2 hr wait for the rest of our party, so we sat at the airport café with a new friend (a young college girls meeting her family there) we met on the plane and our party of 3. Had a few painkillers, 2 burgers and 2 club sandwiches. Burgers looked ok. Their “club” sandwich was bread with a slice of turkey in it. But, it’s the airport so you can’t get set your expectations too high. If you’re not starving, skip the food here. Tab for 4: $97

Road Town – Sharky’s: John the owner is very friendly! He came by the boat to tell us the specials for the night (fresh mahi). 3-4 of our party had the mahi and loved it. I had the margherita pizza and it was very good. John is so friendly that if your provisioning company forgot your bottle of Tito’s, he’ll gladly sell you one from the bar. Along with a big bag of ice! We chatted with him about rums and he brought several small tastings to the table for us to try. He even offered to lend us fishing gear (didn’t take him up on that since we didn’t have a fishing license) Overall, great first night’s meal! The kids joked that if John didn’t have it, he’d either make it or find it for you! Appetizer + 6 dinners + margaritas Tab: $310

Norman Island – Willy T – I know it’s a bar, but we think the food is decent and reasonably priced for a bar like this. If you ask, the cook will make you a little wasabi mayonnaise – it’s delish! We had 6 meals + painkillers at dinner and a few at the bar, including a round on the shot ski. Tab: $182

Virgin Gorda – Hog Heaven: Like everyone says, you have to see this view to appreciate it! The kids were completely wowed with it. The food was great and Dan our waiter was friendly and joked around with everyone. We had ribs & burgers – those that had the ribs thought they were some of the best they’d had. Also had painkillers & rum punches. Kids had smoothies with rum and bushwackers. This is definitely on our “do again” list! Tab: $245

Anegada – First stop was Loblolly Bay for snorkeling and a few painkillers. I can’t remember the name of the bar, but Monica was super nice and we basically made our own drinks. It’s a great little setting to grab a drink & sit under the thatched cabanas and enjoy a drink and the scenery. Next stop was Cow Wreck. This placed was packed! We found a table away from the crowd up on a little platform. Honor bar for everyone as there was only one guy taking food orders and waiting tables. No problem for us as we played darts and pool and the kids had fun making their own drinks. If you were in a hurry, this was not the place to be. But, we weren’t and it was perfect. This is a great place to spend an afternoon and everyone agreed that we would definitely go back. We had cheeseburgers, lobster sandwich, and 2 shrimp salads. Great food. When we paid our tab, my son asked if he could change the waitresses’ fun meter (always polite to ask b4 you touch). She said yes and they laughed. After he walked away, she said “thanks for coming. Can you leave the cute one with me?”  Food & drinks tab: $242
Dinner that night was our “special” dinner at the Anegada Reef Hotel. I wish I could say this was good, but I can’t. The setting IS beautiful – tables in the sand with twinkle lights. Unfortunately we were next to a large table with very loud folks. I mean so loud sometimes we couldn’t carry on a conversation. That aside, I thought the food was ok. It’s $52/head for a full lobster dinner. The lobster was just so-so. Dinner includes salad, 1 roll, a plate of rice to share, and a small plate of cauliflower with some kind of cheese sauce to share. It seemed more of a buffet type dinner than a nice plated dinner. We shared 4 key lime pie slices – which everyone thought were really tasty. Kids each had a drink and we had a few rums on the rocks. Next time, we’ll try someplace different. Tab: $480 (note: they include a 15% gratuity automatically).

Jost Van Dyke – Soggy Dollar: We had lunch & painkillers here. Best fish & chips of the trip! Kids loved the fries so much they ordered a second basket. Not much to say here as everyone pretty much knows the routine. Painkillers are delicious (and were plentiful) and the food was really good. Tab: $212

That’s it! The rest of the time we ate on the boat and our crew was happy & full!

For some reason we had some servers who were very memorable. Chantal at Hog heaven because she was making fun of my brother for ordering chicken (or something plain) while in the British Virgin Islands. And Mic at Soggy Dollar. I think some may know why Mic was so memorable. Unless we caught him at a funny time. He said he was Irish. I think he was fibbing. LOL. Both places were worth the visit.

Cottage Girl--thanks for including the prices in your meal descriptions. Just to be to clear about how many people the price was for--I am somewhat confused though--you said "6 adults" and then a couple of places you said "kids". It was six people altogether, just some of them are your children?

Carol - yes, I call them "kids" because 2 of them are actually my kids. They range in age from 19-26. So basically the tab was for 6 adults. No littles on this trip! :-)

Mick really IS the "real deal". He was my next door neighbour here in West End before I moved. Couldn't find a nicer guy anywhere. He has a wicked sense of humour.

His brother, Big Dave or "Cannon" (as most call him) is a taxi driver based right behind Omar's place (D' Best Cup) in Soper's Hole on Frenchman's Cay. Though they look nothing alike, he and Mick share the same sense of humour.

Micky is a happy guy and always very sweet. Perhaps he meant to say he is [color:"green"]"black Irish"[/color]. That would be just like him.

He's one heck of a gardener too.

Mic is great! While we were at Soggy Dollar my daughters boyfriend stubbed his toe on a rock and took off a big chunk of skin. (This was just before he was taking her on a walk down the beach to propose) Mic stopped making drinks at the packed bar and came up with band aids and water to wash out the wound.
