Recommendations for overnite marina stays. - 03/28/2015 12:51 AM

BVI experienced Marina crawlers,
I am looking for suggestions throughout the BVI for Marinas to spend one night in.

As always, thanks for your anticipated/educated/experienced responses <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/thanks.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/pirate.gif" alt="" />

Leverick comes to the top of the list, but you might need 2 nights <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Sopers hole
Leverick bay ****
Virgin Gorda yacht harbour
Peter island resort.

But why do you want marinas?

It's always nicer and cooler on the water. The exception to that would be leverick bay. As a Ttol you get a special price.

Everybody sure seems biased towards Leverick...

Even me, another vote for Leverick!

Yes, Leverick is best. If the ladies want a little luxury, then Scrub might be the answer.

Leverick number one without question...and getting better every year.

Why: wonderful breeze, incredible dock guys ( Leroy, Tito and Troy) tip them well, they work hard.

Great food at the downstairs restaurant for lunch and superb dining upstairs, a relaxing pool, perfect spot for laundry, fun evening entertainment ( Michael Beans Mon, Tues and Wed, Jumbies, great BBQ and band on Friday) , some nice shopping including a small store for basics with wonderful baked goods .

.....and best of all the amazing Nick and Monica <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Kiss.gif" alt="" />

Leverick is a must do, often spent two nights there. The other depending on time of year and if you have Ac is VGYH. We live on this side of VG now and will soon have our boat in the Marina there. Handiest place to go to baths or savannah bay from , bucks is pretty good for provisioning..if have large crew check out their packaged whole beef tenderloins and prime ribs. And we really like a number of the restaurants close by. It is beautiful at sunset. But in summer can be hot without Ac .

Bob,

Our Marina stops for every trip are
Leverick- fairly obvious from the previous posts

Scrub Island Resort- dockmasters Savio and Kurt are very friendly and helpful. Check with you on occasion to see if you need anything. Awesome pools/hot tub. At the main resort the infinity edge pool, overlooking Marina Cay and Trellis Bay, with a swim up bar and hot tub are on the upper level. The water overflows the infinity edge and spills into the lower pool. There is a water slide connecting the two pools. The lower pool has a beach like entrance (ankle deep gradually increasing in depth to full depth). It also has a swim up bar. The resort provides free transportation to another area called North Beach which has a small pool, bar, beautiful beach with cabanas. There are two resturants although we have not been impressed with the food lately at the outdoor restaurant. There is a Dive shop, market, deli there as well. The showers are the best we have seen (large private room), granite and tile, piped in music. The shower rooms can get stuffy, I think the air con is either non existent or under sized. Most of the people we have met at scrub are staying in rooms at the resort on Rewards Points and are very nice and eager to hear about sailing. There are typically more landlubbers as compared to sailors at Scrub, opposite of what you will see at Leverick. It is more expensive than Leverick during the peak season. I think our bill for one night (slip, ice, water, power) was $150. If you go during late summer or in the fall they May have TTOL specials.

Cheers,

Tony

Noel, you hit the nail on the head. Dress up & dine time for the ladies. We (I believe already made reservations for 1 nite at Scrub) We will probably hit one more for the land lubbers aboard. Leverick seems to be the hands down choice here. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/circle.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Thanks to all.

What's Biras Creek like? Haven't been there but saw on their website that the moorings are $25 and free if you have dinner at their restaurant. The dock space is Single Hull: $2 per foot, per night and Catamaran: $4 per foot, per night which seems somewhat reasonable. $88 for our 44' cat.

Also is possible to get there overland from Leverick? Looking at a map it seems the only way to get there is by boat. I ask since they seem to have some nice trails to walk/hike/run that a couple from my group would enjoy.

Biras creek does indeed have some very pretty trails and interesting places to explore. I would suspect the dock would be very hot as it is very sheltered. Cant get there by car.

We always spend time anchored just at the mouth of this little bay and dinghy around.
The trails on Biras property and like walking trails .

lboothe, $4 x 44= $176 a night

Re: Recommendations for overnite marina stays. - 03/28/2015 04:35 PM

One problem I can see is the HUGE amount of dock space width that the popular cats require. One cat takes up the width of at least two monos making docking more expensive.

Re: Recommendations for overnite marina stays. - 03/28/2015 04:40 PM

Ops! Ur are correct. I guess I used the mono math. That is a little more than I would probably want to pay for dockage but the moorings still seem pretty reasonable.

We always enjoy a quiet night on a ball in Biras, shhh there are turtles! We haven't eaten here but it gets great reviews. Like Kim, we like to hike around the resort, nice place.

The food at Biras is great - not cheap though. Great also applies to the facility itself - beautiful buildings and stunning views. But, and for me this is a big but - closed shoes, collard shirt and worst of all, long pants.

Very Southern!--Does it have to be a green collard shirt? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />

<img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Rofl.gif" alt="" /> As far as I know, collards are always green, aren't they?? <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

Thank you Nick for the clarification. Because all the other above was ruling it out as a stop post haste!!! I can probably make the long pants and collard shirt once, but the closed shoes??? Hmmmm though would water shoes count?

Love being moored in Biras Creek and going ashore around the resort. Safe and calm. Have often been here in thunderstorms and feel very secure. Eating at Fat Virgin is another pleasure. Don't want to tell too many people though&#128521;
