Jumping Rock???

We had our crew meeting yesterday, and one person asked if there is anywhere in the BVi where you can jump from a large rock or cliff into the water. I am not aware of anywhere that it can be done safely.

Is anyone aware of where this could be done safely?

At the baths, from the cathedral room. Once in the water, go to the right the first opening outside. Swim across and climb up and out, keeping right. Its an easy scurry from there.

One of my daughter's friends jumped from a popular cliff in Mexico.

Hit the water wrong and ended up dead.

Personally, I would avoid cliff jumping for this reason.

IMO, it was a preventable tragedy.

The main area once entering The Baths trail. Nothing beneath the rock but 15ft deep water.

What area are you talking about ? I, off hand don't know any area around the boulders that has a depth of 15'.

I've been off that rock at least a dozen times, 230 lbs and never touched the bottom. Sorry, I tried....

Hmmm....uh...does your friend want to commit suicide? I would suggest the boulder at Spring Bay, maybe 8' into 6' of water and then a beer, but BVI is not Alcapulco or an Elvis movie. Stay safe, have fun, use sunscreen...

You're right, the Willy T should be written down in history as the Performing Arts Center of Norman Island.

Well there is one Boulder that looks higher but there's no water under it

The Cathedral is the first open area you come to when taking the path thru the boulders to Devil's Bay.

I have seen some people do it in Lava Flow. There is a large rock to the west of the beach, almost between Lava Flow and Trunk. It looked pretty high to me - 20-30 feet. Would I do it? - not a chance!

I thought the platform on the "Willy T" was gone.

Years ago, if you went on the Stormy Petrel/Pirate's Penny tour of the Baths, they ended up at the top of a HUGE rock, at least 50 feet <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />, and had to jump off to get out of there. I wouldn't be surprised if they have stopped doing it. It sure seemed dangerous to me. I'm a chicken. Flintstone, BVI rock jumping. Not sure where this is but I'm guessing Norman Island.

Man, I used to do some stupid stuff when I was younger. One little slip up and you're in for a long end to your vacation. Stick to the Willy T and leave the stunts to the dumb kids....

I jumped off the upper deck of the Willy-T last year... straight off the stern.
There was no platform.
Had to climb over the rail and teeter on the lip of the deck.

I tell my guests everyday that the only thing that can hurt you here in the BVI is "Stupidity", which while on charter I am not in charge of. I have seen accidents at Baths, not a place to have a backboard brought for you.

We often jump off the rock in Devil's Bay at the Baths in the smaller beach are as soon as you walk off the trail through the Baths. As you wade into the water there is a rock on the right and a about a third of the way up is a circular stepping area in the rock to help you get up. We always use someone's knee to help get up which is the hardest part but it is a 7-8 foot jump into 8-10 feet of water. Pretty safe for the kids if feet first only but tough for the adults to get up the rock though I have managed.

Notice the marks/scars on the kids in slide #16 ....and that the people in the water are standing with heads above the water in the water that is being jumped into...making that too shallow for my taste in regards to jumping in from the top of that rock. I'll stick to the shot-ski and deck/rail at Willie T's <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Yikes.gif" alt="" />

Hi Stoney - actually the damage to the kids wasn't from rock jumping (I won't do it either) but rather from the surf in Spring Bay - they were getting quite a tumble. cheers Brian
