Dog islands - 04/27/2015 10:17 PM

What is the best Dog island to snorkel at, and how many moorings are available? Thanks

I believe it's great dog where the chimney dive site is. That's a great snorkel stop. There's 5-6 mooring balls there. A few other spots nearby as well that you could visit if its full and then try later.

I wish I could post photo's to show you the mooring field but I'm having trouble with photobucket and/or this site. Great Dog is a GREAT spot! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Cheers.gif" alt="" />

I believe that there are only five mooring balls.
This small field is on the west side of the island. It's great snorkeling there.

George Dog is good snorkeling as well and is sheltered from a north swell. There are four NPT balls and two dive balls there. There is a small sand beach on the east side of the George Dog morring field.

There used to be a couple of balls on the south side of Great Dog. You could swim to the airplane fuselage wreck from them.

I'm pretty sure that they are still there. I know I saw them the last time I sailed by,

Sailed by today, there are no balls currently located on the south cuast of Great Dog - must have been my imagination. The were five balls on the east side. I hope that helps.

West side of great dog is a dive set. There should be balls there. The south side normally has dive balls for coral gardens. The east side is a dangerous field of coral heads. Possibly nice snorkelling and an untouched beach. I have never seen balls there. That could be new. If you go looking, stay way out and be careful.

The beach on the east side is stunning. I was shocked by the extensive coral heads. It was difficult finding a path to shore

Yes, that's the nice beach on great dog. Also, I went to coral gardens on the south side of great dog. Today I counted at least five mooring balls

Here is a link to mooring fields in the dogs. Two days ago, i sailed around Great Dog. There were five balls in the field on the west where there is also usually a dive mooring. Along the south coast, I didn't see any, although on previous trips I thought I had seen them as noted above.

Sailed by again today - no balls on south coast - just on the west coast.

They were in pretty rough shape the last time we stopped there.
