Sunsail 464

Sunsail 464 - 08/28/2015 09:49 PM

Anyone with experience with the Sunsail 464 Cat? We have one chartered for next June, 2016. Curious about rigging. Are there any electric winches on board for halyard or sheets? Any impressions of the boat would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

No personal experience but I do see it has an "electric winch for mainsail" listed. See Sunsail 464

Last 464 I was on, there was no electric winch, but I guess they must have changed that. Not sure what else they've changed, but the main halyard was raised at the base of the mast. All other lines were led to the helm. Perhaps that was changed as well though?

Not the "official" Sunsail page.
We had a Sunsail 440 recently and the electric winch at the helm was great for the main and jib fuller. It sure spoils ya!

I think you mean 444? That is one of the newer ones and it does have an electric winch. I didn't even pay attention to the fact the 464 link wasn't an official page. If I was betting, I'd say it probably doesn't have an electric winch.

Official link is here and there's no mention of it.

The boat is the same as the Moorings 4600 when looking for reviews.

Matt...you're right, we chartered the 444 R&C44'

Foot switch at the helm worked great. Spoil me forever!

Yeah - all the newer Leopards have it (Moorings 3900, 4000, 4800, 5800 and the Sunsail 444 - not sure if sunsail is going to have (or has) a 40 or 48 in the fleet).

Makes raising the main such a breeze!

Oh, and don't forget the power davit systems on most of these new models as well. On prior trips we towed the dink during short trips instead of pulling it up. (A little lazy I admit) And those older first generation Leopards davits weren't engineered well. Now Moorings/Sunsail recommends not to tow.

We lowered at anchor to improve the view astern.

We've always used the davits, even on the 46, but the new ones are much better for sure! The one thing I did like about the 46 though was the seat and the fact you could lower it into the water for a platform - we didn't use it much since it was a pain, but did a few times and it was pretty cool when we did.

Sorry if I was misleading. As jphart mentioned that link was to viyachts, a broker, not Sunsail. I've seen them list more accurate info about boats than the charter outfits do but as of my last check they don't deal with TMM or list Dream Yachts in the BVI so I know they are not perfect. I just use their webpage to get an idea since I find it easy to navigate. Our last charter had two refrigerators and a freezer and inverter - none of that was mentioned online, just refrigeration. If it was me running the show I'd darned sure at least list anything extra on all of my boats.

Anyway, I was only trying to suggest the 464 may have an electric winch. I should have said that and I should have mentioned that it was viyachts that says the Sunsail 464 has the electric winch and that Sunsail may have just omitted it, I almost did. If no one here knows for sure then you should call Sunsail and ask. Since they have many of the same models, hopefully they will all be setup the same but I got the impression last time with them that they may not. Again, I'd see if they can sort it out for you.

On the Leapord 46 / Moorings 4600 / Sunsail 464 it is very easy to use the windlass to raise the main.

Lol snowdog. That is thinking like a sailor! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Clapping.gif" alt="" />

Not sure I would have thought of that but just goes to show that it doesn't matter what something is designed to do. Only matters what it can do. (I'm thinking that came from Apollo 13)

I'm pretty sure the 464 Sunsail is an older model version that does not have an electric winch unless someone retrofitted it. The newer models, like the 444, do indeed have the electric winch option, and it does spoil you...a lot.
