flying from the north/midwest rant

flying from the north/midwest rant - 10/13/2015 02:42 AM

dang it the flight options from where I'm at are frustrating as all get out! I hate booking tickets.. I hate looking at 22 hr travel time, 30 hr travel time, 38 hr travel time, 40+ hr travel time... to get to somewhere that should be an 8 hour max travel duration!

Yes I checked.. everything from my 2 options.. FAR and MSP...and yup, to almost every island in the caribbean, so, finally, but I paid through the $$, found a flight that will get me there the same day. what a hassle, what an expense.. and still it's a lousy travel itinerary.
Ended up paying an extra $100 for a little later flight outta SJU so I can settle down a bit between my flight coming into SJU and departing, but still only getting to STT.. then I still have to get from there to Tortola.. it just sucks!

I hate flying.. the only thing in my life that stresses me is fricken flying! It's not really the flying that bothers me.. it's being in the dang airport waiting for and making connections to flights... it bugs me.. unless I'm at the gate, sitting and sure I'm at the right place and on time.. I can't settle down.. I hate it I hate it I hate it!
I just hate it!

I hope this is one of the last years I go through this......

Ok.. I feel a little better.. BUT NOT MUCH!!

Not sure when you are flying, but Sun Country out of MSP has a dozen or so Caribbean destinations.
As an example, you can fly MSP-STT non-stop January 9-16 for about $550. (Same price as more than ten years ago) St. Thomas is about the same price but Sundays instead of Saturdays.

I took a quick look at flights in Nov from MSP to STT and the total travel time is 7:20. Return flight around 8:20. After Dec 15 when high season starts there should be more options. Travel time includes the sit time in ATL.

part of the problem is I never know when I'm going to go, or when I can go. I was trying to book for sometime shortly after the 20th of October. options are real limited to be doing that this late.
I saw the $575 flight out of minneapolis to stt, but considering the 270 mile drive and a night at the hotel, leaving the car for a month or two, or the kids that live in the cities getting up at 3 or 4 in the morning to take me to the airport I really wanted to get out of FAR. I arrive STT 4:30.. hope to make the ferry. All totalled I should get there for about $700 OW... give or take.
Sun country looks like a good option for later.. after the first of Dec., I use to fly them all the time but then they quit the flight only deals... but I see they are available once again, and even one way.
