Barge sunk, Anegada - 11/06/2015 07:28 PM

A supply ship sunk just outside the Anegada channel this morning. Stern is underwater and grounded. Nobody hurt. Lots of debris in water headed out to sea. Locals trying to collect.

Its settling on the bottom not much showing anymore after the storm last night. Will need to be marked and if left it will be a good snorkeling site as the water isn't that deep.

Sounds like they might have hit the two sisters. They have claimed a lot of charter boats.

Methinks some things may be in short supply on Anegada this week as that boat is their main source of product delivery..folks may have to live on a diet of Anegada lobster!

I would say it's marked

As I understand, she was intentionally grounded after taking on water. Assuming the hull is still in good shape that should not be a terribly dificult salvage job. Meanwhile somebody has to fill in the supply gap to Anegada. With the new places and increased marketing this is set to be a record year for Anegada. A lack of supplies would put a serious crimp in that plan.

Glad no one was injured for sure. Also hope the Lobster Fest set for later this month is still on!!!!

Place some on every ferry run should be a nice short term addition to the ferry business? Yes? No?

Not a Barge sunk, Anegada - 11/08/2015 01:10 AM

Headline bugs me...
This isn't a barge. Inter island freighter.
Should be an easy recovery. Shouldn't it?

Why not a Barge?
Recovery should be very easy as it's only in about 11'/12' of water, Husky were inspecting it today.

Actually the Isabel 5 would qualify as a self propelled deck barge.

Frank, thanks for the update last night. Good to see you at Leverick. We're likely headed over today. But, we are being pretty lazy this morning.

Where is it grounded? One of the beaches and if so where. We will be there in a week and am curious of it whereabouts.

Darn guess we are going to have to live on Lobster.

We were there Friday morning when it sank. It's right outside of the first red bouy marker to the channel.

Sounds like a major hazard if it's submerged since the initial sinking.

I can see the top of the vessel, Isabelle 5, from the anchorage. She is outside of the channel to the south of the last red buoy before the green/red buoy.. We spoke with Desne at Wonky Dog and she said that Husky towing was out Saturday to have a look. We haven't seen any salvage work Sunday or Monday morning.

Here's a photo I took on the way in yesterday:

George - Word is that she sprung a leak on the way over and just happened to sink there. Sooooooooo close.
Glad she didn't sink in the channel!

indeed

Re: Barge sunk, Anegada - 11/10/2015 06:32 PM

Leak, gas powered trash pump would not start, list, sudden catastrophic unsecured cargo shift, that is likely the end of the story. Old boat fully submerged in salt water. Who will want to pay the cash to drag the wreck away?

Re: Barge sunk, Anegada - 11/10/2015 06:45 PM

Husky have been contracted to raise her and bring her to Anegada, just waiting for them
