MM 1st trip Honeymoon itinerary feedback - 04/19/2016 02:42 PM

I'll start off by saying what a pleasant surprise to find the amount of information on this forum. What a great group of people I've found. I'm getting to Tortola on the 13th of May. Rent a jeep and stay at Long Bay Beach Club 1 night. Tour the island and self provision the boat on the 14th. We will be eating a shore most days. Sleep aboard the boat at Hodges marina that evening. Hope to get an early start on the 15th(day 1). A little worried about grabbing a mooring ball at Cooper Island from what I've read. I will head straight there from Hodges after are briefing. Snorkel Cistren than dinner ashore. Day 2- Rendezvous dive 8:30am with SailCaribbean, wreck of the Rhone. Onto Leverick bay, slip for 2 nights(Nicks the man) Dinner at the resort. (Day 3)Rental car to explore VG and Baths, dinner at ?. Next day (4) To the Dogs and stop somewhere for lunch?? On the way to Jost. Grab a mooring in Great Harbor, taxi around? Day (5) spend 1st part of day at Jost than off to Norman to snorkel the caves / Indians. Grab a ball, eat at the bight. Day 7 is up in air?? Possibly Sprag at Peter island? Any input is very much appreciated as this is my honeymoon and want to make it super special. With a good mix of land activity and time on the boat. Thank you, Jeff

Just a thought for you - since the rental car is 24 hours, we typically will pick it up the day we arrive and go out to dinner that night. Then the 2nd night have dinner at Leverick. This way, 2nd day you could go to the Baths, visit some other stuff and stop at Hog Heaven on your way back to Leverick.

As far as where to have dinner when out - Coco Maya is a great option - there's plenty of other good places to go as well. Coco Maya can certainly have a romantic vibe though as they have a fire pit and nice loungers around it. Great place to sit and have some drinks before eating.

Itinerary looks good.
I had planned to go to the BVI on my honeymoon, But in 1990, with no marriage plans in my future, I could wait no longer, so I went on my honey moon trip to the BVI without a wife.
I met my future wife on that trip and we celebrate our 20th this year.
Good luck to you both!

BTW...Have the two of you every sailed together before?

Hello Chuck! Great story... The boat is a power cat so not sailing. However we do quite a bit of boating together here in Florida.

Jeff,
Over the years, Watching the honeymooners ( and first time boaters) pick up a mooring ball for the first time has provided some good entertainment in anchorage.
If you can survive that test, the marriage is solid. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Thumbsup.gif" alt="" />

That is so true. Also make sure you have good communication. I did not when I did our first trip. I went forward to do something with the jib and told her to head into the wind. She had no clue what that meant and almost put me overboard. The first night at Marina Cay she did not want to go forward and do the Bo Peep hook (boat hook) so I had to do the chore. When I gave her the go forward signal she slammed the throttle to full when I screamed at her she went full astern. Then she got mad because I yelled at her. I guess when you have been on a boat you have a special language that the flatlanders do not understand.. What ended the trip was coming back from Anegada i asked her to take the helm because I was going on the poop deck to relieve myself. We had a pretty good breeze with one reef and 1/2 a jib. She was not happy being rail down and when she took the wheel the weather helm spun us into the wind. After that we had to take the boat back with 4 days left and ended up at Lamberts. That way i got to pay for the boat and resort. Oh well lessons learned. We now only do Catamarans another couple who knows what they are doing.
