TMM Charter Base - 10/23/2016 02:13 AM

Happy Saturday night ... just wondering if anyone has information or links and details on the TMM Yacht Charter base ? Pictures and details on facilities on site are what we are looking for. Travelling with newbies and they are asking about shower facilities etc. Thanking you in advance.

Why not call TMM directly and ask.

They even have 1-800 numbers to the base.

Good luck.

Not been there for four years so things might have changed a bit but, here's what I know...

Showers aren't great. Take your mossie spray and get in and out quickly! They are the only downside of TMM.

Small Riteway supermarket right at the entrance to the base. Great for topping up with the things you need before your provisions arrive or that you forgot to put on the list.

Great little shop/cafe called Grandalls (Crandalls?) just across the road. Excellent local food. Unpredictable hours!

The Pub is just about 100 yds down the road. Good food if you stick to the more basic items on the menu.
Fort Burt hotel and restaurant slightly closer than The Pub.

The Royal BVI Yacht Club is right there beside the TMM base. Seem to remember that they liked someone to sign you in but may be wrong about that. Beer used to be cheaper there than most other places as it is officially a members club. Lots of the TMM staff used to have a beer or two there before heading home.

That is the way things were for the 10 years I had my boat in the BVI, mostly at TMM, so I doubt much has changed since but someone with more recent experience will probably come along.

Have fun

The showers are not air conditioned - but they are clean and in good repair so are certainly worth using. The Riteway on shore is small compared to the main stores in town, but is perfectly functional for most essentials. We have self provisioned only using that store before but choices are limited... it depends what your meal plan will be as to how useful you will find it. The base staff are INCREDIBLY helpful, I cant say enough good things about them - they will help you get off at the charter start in good time and their responsiveness when things go wrong is very good. Finally the BVIYC just across the street from the marina is the home of Sharkys Cantina which is excellent (and when we were there needed a reservation to secure the table you want). No club membership of the Yacht club necessary and great views over the SFD channel with good food and cocktails. Have fun!

Mollster ... I am one of the Owners at TMM ... S/V Orion. Feel free to call and I can answer any of your questions (in addition to the great perspectives you are getting from TTOL'ers). Thanks - Mark (262-ORION15)

The restaurant at RBVIYC has been "Sharkey's Mexican Cantina" for a number of years. Open to the public. Check TripAdvisor for reviews. The Pub changed hands from Bonnie to Myron Walwyn (Minister of Education & Cuture in the BVI government) a number of years ago, so the menu is more West Indian than it used to be.

This is Ms. Joyce, she is one of the members of the staff at TMM. She is very friendly, warm, helpful and caring. She arrives at the base before the roosters crow. She brings coffee to the folks who stayed overnight. Feeds the chickens leftover chips and bread, she names them after the boats in the fleet. Has a great attitude, her favorite saying is "Oh Happy Day". She is just one of the many friendly staff at TMM. office hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm but they have a security guard walking the premises after hours.

Enjoy your visit!

This is Andrew, he is TMM's taxi driver. He will meet your krewe at the airport or ferry dock and drive you to the TMM base. He is very professional, prompt, dependable and reliable.

I am in BVI and my first time at TMM (Sea Tiger). We got in about 6:00 PM and boat was with lights & A/C on. The facilities were clean (I did not take a shower before departing to sea the next morning.
I was impressed that my Riteway order was entirely correct and very organized order sheet. I am fairly certain that delivery was from the main Riteway and not the one next door.
No restaurants open on Sunday night close by... If you have any Riteway shopping to do (We wanted to select our on produce at the store), may consider doing it on the evening of arrival and eat near Riteway).
Everyone (Andrew, Joyce , Rory, Mark and Corine) were outstanding in their service

Most of all: ENJOY!

Re: TMM Charter Base - 10/27/2016 09:15 AM

We have used TMM since 1992 and have found the facility, location and people to be among the best. Big enough to handle the unexpected and small enough to provide real personal service. I did not find the shower facilities to be anything but clean and fresh and I echo most of the positive comments made by others - and I don't own a boat there so I am somewhat unbiased.

Deepcut ... did TMM hold your Riteway order or did you pay for after hours delivery ? We arrive from STT on late saturday afternoon or maybe evening (in January) and it seems most provisioning companies are closed mid-afternoon and Sundays. Wondering how others handle after hours delivery (notably from Riteway and Tico) ??

Seventeen years ago Andrew picked us up at the airport and drove us to TMM, it was late at night, maybe 10-11:00. We had to stop somewhere near downtown because there were cows standing in the road. The next morning I woke to Joyce's beautiful voice, her singing away, cleaning and making coffee. It was magical.

Mollster:
We arrived Sunday evening: Riteway delivered about 8:30 on Monday morning.

We love the TMM base! The showers are clean and well lit. The staff is super friendly and helpful. Andrew & Joyce are beautiful people. Just exactly as others have said above. The small Riteway near the base is surprisingly well stocked for it's size - not for a full provisioning, but definitely good for picking up things you may have forgotten to order or pack. The ONLY downside (and this is true of most marinas), it's hot in the marina at night. If you have AC, you'll be fine though.

TMM is great. I had a boat there years ago. They have improved the base quite a bit, but it has always been a casual (no luxury) place. Cool, and plenty good enough...
