Scrub Island Marina - 01/24/2017 07:32 PM

Spending one night in a slip at Scrub Island. Is it good. Are there things to do there? Good restaurants?

I spent a night on the dock there last year on a 41' monohull and it was pretty rocky, granted I was on the middle dock and only the third slip in. They have a ferry that runs all night back and forth to somewhere near the airport and you will hear it and feel it all night. That said, if you're on a cat, they had put those either up against the hard all the way in or oriented perpendicular, so those will be a much smoother night. Power and water are extra, but the shower facilities are reasonably nice.

As for Scrub Island, it was a nice spot, the pool is great and they have a floating trampoline off their beach (which is easily seen from the pool deck). We like Peter Island better, but it is a different animal. They have a couple restaurants, we tried the one by the pool and it was good. Resort food and prices, but good quality. They also had a decent night scene, but that largely will depend on when you're there. Like any resort, go in and open a house account while you're there and the largely treat you like full on hotel guests, just be prepared to wait a little if you try to check out when everyone else does.

It is also just a short dingy ride over to Marina Cay and their Pussers shop and bar, so if you haven't been and are looking for things to do, my wife and I enjoyed it and still use our souvenir shot glasses to prepare our livers for the next trip.

Feel free to PM me with any questions, this is enough of a book report for the board.

We've stayed a few times. Now it is a must do since our 2 year (almost anyway) loves the water slide they have at the pool and our boat doesn't have a genset so its a great way to get some A/C for a night or two.

Otherwise, we wouldn't make it a regular visit, but might visit every few trips. The pool is nice with 2 levels and water slide and swim up bar. Nice restaurants and they have 2 beaches, with one having a pool and bar as well. It is a resort with a resort atmosphere.

And as ThreeSheets mentioned, it's a short dinghy ride to Marina Cay.

Scrub has a nice beach on the north side of the island. They will provide a ride. Take your cooler and enjoy an almost private beach.

We stayed at Scrub in a room for a few nights pre-charter last year. The pools are nice if you want a fresh water swim. We were unimpressed with the restaurants tho. They were out of a lot of things (pinot grigio, shrimp, coco lopez (?!)). And the restaurant wait staff seemed very disinterested. Might have been the time of year (November) and might sound petty, but for the price we expected a little more.

Northeaterly swell rocked us pretty good last year starting around 2 a.m. We were in a 48 cat all the way in along the wall. Not sure if that protected us from something worse or amplified. There were two 80'+ Hudson yachts nearer the channel on the end that were noticeably moving.

That being said, wife's favorite marina stop. Plenty to do as noted above.

On our Tuesday itinerary from now on to top off water and take a long hot shower.

Thinking of mooring at Marina Cay our first night out of Rd Town. Is it worth a dingy over to Scrub? Are you welcome if you get a snack and/or drink at the bar? Not expecting them to allow us to use their pool (although I am sure the kids would be in for that!...I am also sure we would be kicked out pretty quick <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/duh.gif" alt="" />) but it would be nice to explore the place a little to recon for subsequent trips.

They do have a well stocked deli/grocery that makes some killer breakfast sandwiches and offers pizza, lunch sandwiches, etc. That food was good and very reasonably priced!
