D' Coal Pot / Ginger Wine Chicken

D' Coal Pot / Ginger Wine Chicken - 08/17/2017 08:28 PM

D' Coal Pot in Carrot Bay is now serving Ginger Wine Chicken. Nancy and I both had it last night. It is a little bit different from the old Palms Delight recipe, but it is very good - in fact, it is better. The chicken breast was extremely tender and the breading was delightfully light.

It was served with steamed veggies, garlic mashers, and fried plantains.

We also had dinner at the new location a couple of weeks ago. That night, they had pan fried fresh local snapper on the specials board. It was fantastic.

The new location is very comfortable. It is right on water, and it is almost always comfortably breezy there. It was rainy last night, we sat next to one of the open windows on the windward side, and we were dry.

To sum it up, they have stepped up a couple of levels from the old Apple Bay location without at all being pretentious.

If you have an opportunity, give it a try!

Agree with Walker that its good..about $7 more than the old Palm's Delight prices for a bigger portion. The first time for me was not close to Iona's dish. Second time was spot on. Love the new location but do feel they are upping their prices a little too high..for $20 a couple more you can dine at The Sugar Mill...

I'll take D' Coal Pot over the Sugar Mill any day. Food as good, more West Indian, not pretentious, and service much better.

Walker's assessment--food as good, more West Indian, not pretentious, and good service--is exactly what many people are looking for. No wonder the owners have been able to build a great new facility and move to a fantastic location. My husband and I can't wait to try the new place <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" /> in February. My guess is they're going to be even more successful than they've been in the past. Thanks, Walker!

I would also suggest here a visit to "Gene's" in Sea Cow's Bay (Manuel Reef Marina)_for lovers of local and varied cuisine at a great price..with a wonderful couple as owners. As I noted in another post "The Sugar Mill" is staying open for those who want a really great, fine dining experience (IMHO)...or a great bowl of soup or apps at the bar..Look for the beach bar/ restaurant to be staying open all afternoon and into the evening in the near future..for those who find upstairs too pretentious..

Yes - Gene's is also one of our favorite places. Like Mal said, the owners are a wonderful couple, and the food is very good. Gene makes fantastic roti and curries.

Gene, and her hubby Robin, are a great couple and make great food.

Gene's is another really great place, and we're glad they're doing well. We've been hearing for two years now that islands at Sugar Mill would "soon" be open for dinner. It has said on the SM web site for more than a year that it's going to become Tramonti and will be open for lunch and dinner. When we had lunch at Islands last year, we asked the wait staff about it. They kind of laughed and claimed they knew nothing about it. Currently, the site does say that Islands is closed and is being "refurbished," so perhaps the change will actually happen this year. if so, we'll give it a try because we really like places that are close to the ocean. We'll see what happens and hope it won't be another year. Soon come?

The old "Islands" has been refurbished and is 50% bigger with a covered roof. This year they had a great bar b q with music every Friday night. Their biggest problem is staffing he place to keep it open all day but that will happen and it will probably be called " Tramonti"..

Veering off topic, but some of you know Robin, so maybe you can help. We're starting our BVI pack, and thinking about his Christmas gift. A pack of Sawzall blades was well received one year, a Polar Bear cooler last year not so much. Anybody have any good ideas? Without him, we'd have to pack up and sell, so he needs to feel appreciated.
