Virgin Gorda - 09/06/2017 08:51 PM

not at top of the list but if anyone can get pictures of the Yacht Harbor I would appreciate seeing them. Any word on North Sound, Ester and the Fat Virgin, and Leverick Bay? Sure hope everyone is ok. The photos I have seen look like a war zone.

Where have you found pictures of VG? Been looking. Didn't think anyone had heard anything definite yet?

Re: Virgin Gorda - 09/06/2017 09:27 PM

I'm not optimistic about seeing anything soon from VG or it being good when we do. Have many friends and property there. When saw it was ground zero for passage through ...smack dab middl of the eye ..which means it experienced hurricane winds for 45 minutes before the eye wall having 225 mph winds..that meant a lot when they explained that's equivalent to an F4 tornado ..got a break for 20 minutes.. and hen had an f3 tornado for 15 minutues and then a cat 3 hurricane for a couple hours.

That's total devastation for those of us that know about tornadoes. This is a huge debacle that is likely to be difficult to imagine let alone deal with in the coming days. So tragic

Thorny, I hate to think what Mattie Point looks like. Irma's path could not have been any worse.

Guess could not land so flew back to PR and are on a boat headed to VG now.

"Jeff, Jim and group on way from PR on boat PREDATOR. Should arrive to VGYH mid to late afternoon with supplies and more sat phones. If anyone gets in contact with anyone there please let them know so they can delivery to best area. Jeff will need info on structural integrety of ferry dock for the barge. Will post address for supplies to your families and our supply needs soon. Need to ensure no damage to FL port after Irma reaches us."

Re: Virgin Gorda - 09/08/2017 05:18 PM

there is a new picture of Leverick bay on Caribbean buzz helicopters facebook page. It took more damage than I thought from the first picture. The restaurant is destroyed. Comments from people in the know have said that "the duck and dive" is standing.

It is hard to believe that virtually every place we visited this summer is destroyed...haven't seen anything of Cooper, Peter and Norman, hoping they faired better.

Re: Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor - 09/08/2017 06:32 PM

Pictures of the marina and yard are on-line Yard seems to show some yachts toppled. Marina looks OK Speedy ferry on a dock. YCCS lost all docks. Building looks OK Water plant at south sound is damaged lost roof. The Cuan Law and a freighter on on the beach at south sound. The road to south sound is littered. Leverick Bay main building lost the roof. Docks are fine. Many homes in the leverick bay are are damaged.

Re: Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor - 09/08/2017 07:46 PM

Look closer at Leverick's docks. Looks like office and the fuel stations are gone. Also have on seen an aerial of VGYH. Too hard to tell what conditions are at that distance. If you know of something closer please share!

Re: Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor - 09/09/2017 01:22 AM

Sorry no criticism intended. Just saw things a bit differently. Docks are there but looks like a lot of its major parts are gone. Including Dive BVI's hut. I think it's really Important to make sure we all post accurate information at this time since there is so much social media traffic.

Re: Virgin Gorda Yacht Harbor - 09/09/2017 01:35 AM

This just posted about folks at Leverick from someone with personal contact with Monica

****BIG UPDATE: We just got another call from Leverick Bay. No deaths, no major injuries. They know about Jose and have shelter. They have a generator up and running somewhere on the island and will produce water. Cisterns are full. Some people have been air lifted to PR. They now know about the medical supplies available at P and that Javier Lopez and Maggie are going to head over when they can. Have been informed that navy is coming.

Hi Kim,

I took a look for the VGYH neighbors group but didn't see it. We have cruiser friends who left their boat on the hard on VG and I know they're nervous for info. If it's a private group can I put her in touch with you or the group?

Unconfirmed that Edith is safe
