Captain's Compass boat owners

Captain's Compass boat owners - 09/13/2017 02:42 PM

I realize there are many priorities ahead of boat issues in the BVI. As with everyone seeking information, the owners of boats are on pins and needles as to the steps needed to be addressed. Right now 3 owner's of boats in Captain's Compass have been sharing the limited information they have. Owners can PM me and as a group we will equally stay informed and move forward with needed repairs. Luckily, it appears all our boats are still floating. Plus, this way we will all be on the same information link. Most understandably, as of yet none of us have heard from Brent. I did hear he injured his knee during the hurricane. Hopefully one of us will hear from him soon. Anyone with information about Sea Cow Bay and Brent please pass it on. Thanks, Frank

Frank, do you mind keeping this information open on-line rather than through PM? I am for one also interested in the fate of Captains Compass , but don'the want to bug Brent

I saw a picture of Sea Cow Bay and it looked pretty devastated ... but I notice where his boats are typically tied up, there were none there. Do you know if he moved them before the hurricane hit ?

Where did you see the photo? Can you post the link? While looking at the video of Nanny Cay I saw on background what looked like a few masts standing up in the corner where he kept the boats. It was a couple of days after Irma

Recent history shows the underwriters will put a adjuster/surveyor on those boats. If the rough early numbers to fix the boat add up to +/- 80% of the insured value. The underwriter will pay off the total value of the policy and take the hull in salvage. Liquidators will be brought in to retitle and sell the wrecks. Certainly there are hulls in that image that can be repaired or combined with others to sail again. The most efficient path to that end is. Pay off the original owner. Sell the wreck to someone who wants the project. The insurance companies know they do better that way in any major damage project. That may be the only path for some of the smaller players to get back in business. It will take a large sum of cash. A bank will not lend on that plan.

Brent is apparently recovering healthwise, so that is good.
Hopefully, no further hurricanes score a direct hit. I feel for all the people who have had their lives turned upside down.
Prior to Irma, Brent was able to secure the sailboats to the mangrove island (as seen in the pic above), probably minimizing damage ... certainly, he lost none of the boats and expects some to be available for Thanksgiving, and most to be available for Christmas.

I can't believe one idiot left his jib on. My insurance required all sails to be removed
