What's Up With Airfares?

What's Up With Airfares? - 10/22/2017 01:40 PM

We are not flying to the BVI until June but I have been watching airfares to get an idea of pricing. I would think that with the destruction in the area that prices would drop a bit. I need to arrive in the afternoon because we are doing a sleep aboard and I want to be able to get settled in at a reasonable time and be there before my crew shows up. AA seems to be the best choice for me. Delta is higher and United is much higher. From Tampa to STT, the prices are $644 and up. This has gone up about $100 in past month. With this option, I still have to pay for the ferry. Tampa to EIS is $784 and up. This has only dropped about $10. Flying from Orlando is no better.

I suspect schedules will be reduced from last year so there are fewer seats to sell. The prices you quote don't seem that bad. Under 600 was always my go to price from CLT. Last June the best we could do was 612 from CLT to STT. Try sliding your departure back or forward a few days. It can make a difference.

Try matrix ita software. Google it. I don't think you can fly direct to STT from Tampa, you have to go thru MIA. Lots of good deals to be found on matrix, especially if your dates are flexible.

All the airlines are very good at quickly reducing capacity to maintain yields. When I checked my flights in February Delta had reduced ATL STT from 2 757s to 1 737-700 (small one).

Once the airlines start adding back flights the prices will go down. With only 2-3 flights a day into STT the demand is high especially for outbound flights.

Just got off the phone with Delta. there giving us a full refund on our non-refundable tickets in February. This would have been our 13th year. hope to be back in 2019.

tpcook, we grabbed two tickets one way from STT to Miami at $120 each and thought we got a steal for Nov! Fingers crossed it is an uneventful trip.

What are your dates? We are flying to SJU on Jet Blue from Orlando and then using our Intercaribbean flights that we booked for November to EIS. One way on JB for “Even More Space” seats non stop was $250 each. JB doesn’t have our return date up yet but hoping to use points for that.

We used Intercaribbean on our last trip in May and had a good experience with them - they were less $$$ than Seaborne and Cape Air.
We have to collect bags and go through security so I allow at least two hours even with TSA precheck and Global Entry on the return.

On a sad note...the boat we have wanted to charter for a while now was destroyed in Irma’s wrath...but on a happy note, BVI Yacht Charters has said they are replacing it with a brand new Jeanneau 2c/2h with Gen/AC which is likely the 44DS....not too shabby!!!

Just curious, what was the boat you were going to charter?
