Transfer in San Juan

Transfer in San Juan - 05/29/2018 06:36 PM

I posted this in a thread below but I think it probably got missed.
We will be connecting to InterCarribbean from Southwest in San Juan. It sounds like the process is different than what we are used to where your bags are checked all the way through to your final destination (Beef Island). Can someone tell me about the process once we get to San Juan.
Do we go all the way out to baggage claim and check back in with IC and go back through security or is there a baggage claim inside security where we would gather our things, and I presume, go through customs?
I think we will have plenty of time to make our connection I am just confused on the process.
Thanks in advance for any clarification!

I have flown thru SJU to several times recently. I have been on American Airlines and booked with Intercaribbean separately so it may be different. In my case you simply collect your bags at baggage claim and take the elevator there in the baggage claim area upstairs and check in at the I/C counter. Two points, their counter is at the far end of the terminal and it is only maned a couple hours before the next scheduled flight. The TSA line can be long and slow so if you have TSA Precheck it will help a bunch.

Yes, I did book separately with IC as well. I do have Global Entry but don’t remember putting that info in when I booked my IC flight. Maybe I need to contact them and make sure they have it so I can go through the Precheck line.

No pre-check with IC boarding passes. It's a T&C based airline so I don't think they care about the US Global Entry number. I've never been able to enter it or get TSA pre-check.

Southwest does not interline bags. You will need to go to baggage claim and retrieve the bags. I would allow 2 hours minimum to get the bags, recheck them and make it through security.

I could be wrong, but my recollection from last February was that they participate in tsa precheck
