Intercaribbean - 10/01/2018 01:05 PM

Hi all - I know we have discussed Intercaribbean Airways here before but I did a search and could not find the threads...so...just a quick question for anyone who has also flown them....

I know when we flew down in June and had CHECKED bags, we had to go all the way out to check in with them after collecting our bags from Jet Blue at SJU.

I am using them again this month to fly down for Cat Fight - but I am doing carryon only. Will I still need to go through security since I can check in for my flight on line? I am guessing no....I have about an hourand a half between flights at SJU.

Not sure if this is the thread you're looking for or not, but I found

Thanks, Carol - I did find that one but it doesn’t address the security issue, which is what I am most concerned about. I think I will have plenty of time even if I do have to pass through TSA again - especially since Intercaribbean now recognizes TSA pre-check - just curious as to any experience others have had.

We flew Delta from Atlanta to SJU and then Intercaribbean to Beef Island (twice this year). Did not have to go back out to security. We just went straight to the Intercaribbean gate.

Thanks....that is exactly what I was hoping - did you get your IC boarding pass on line?

Yes. Although, I think we just got it at the gate on the first trip.

I have done this trip at least 6 times this year and you do NOT need to leave the secured area if you have carry-on bags. I have never been successful checking in on line but have tried a couple of times. You need to go down to the IC gate and they will check you in and print a boarding pass. Be careful, they do close the flight 30 minutes before flight time and 1 hour before the flight you won't find anyone at the gate.

Thanks, Jason - no problem there - my Southwest flight lands at 1 and I am on the 2:35 on Intercaribbean so with just carryon, it should be fine if my flights are on schedule......

Winterstale were you able to make your travel connections okay on this trip? Wife and I are planning the same route (SJU to EIS) from Southwest to Intercaribbean, using TSA Precheck with about the same time window (90min.). Have been sweating over this one for months—especially after I heard about a recent spate of Intercaribbean flight cancellations due to pilot shortages. Last time I tried to fly SJU to EIS in 2015 on another island carrier they cancelled the return trip with no explanation. Hoping to avoid a similar scenario this time but didn’t want to do the STT to Tortola ferry thing again. Taking my chances and hoping it pans out.

We had one couple use IC (it was cheaper than Seaborne) in October and no issues. We all have carry ons and we didn't have to leave the terminal from a Jet Blue DCA to SJU flight (its usually on the way back for us that we have to go out). The rest of us did Seaborne and what was nice is they had there own customs center on the way back and the gate for departing was right where we deboarded from DCA. This turned out to be good because Seaborne had moved the flight up an hour at the last minute and didnt tell us. So connections were done to both Seaborne and IC in under 30 minutes which has been our norm going in. We do have global entry which includes TSA precheck...

On Saturday 5 of us go DCA to SJU and arrive 12:46 to catch the 2:35 IC flight and on Sunday 4 more do the same. I can report back if you want....

I personally think you will be fine.

I just did this again last week and the week before. With carry-on it's definitely not a problem. If you have checked bags and have to retrieve them, clear security, and get back to IC you should still be fine with 90 minutes. I wouldn't waste any time but it should be a comfortable connection. If there's any question, have only 1 person leave the secured area to recheck the bags. The other person can go directly to the IC gate and let them know there is still someone coming for the flight.

My experience in SJU is most of the airlines use a 60 and sometimes 90 minute minimum to check bags. I don’t see how a 90 minute connection can work with checked bags.
