Bareboat advice - 11/05/2018 01:29 AM

Having bareboat chartered in the BVI 20+ times we are eager awaiting our first visit and charter in St. Maarten-St. Martin. Although we normally sail, this trip we will be on Moorings 514 PC. Not sure if this vessel will expand our cruising range in this part of the Caribbean. Am looking for advice or PM with someone who can answer a bunch of questions so we can show up prepared with as varied and interesting itinerary as possible given the cruising speed of the 514. Not that I am in a rush, just trying to take advantage of the 700 HP. We are visiting for 7 days in January 2019. Any help would be appreciated with respect to an itinerary.

I posted this on the St. Martin forum but did not get much of a response as I most topics (and posters) seem to be "land based"

I think it opens up your options quite a bit. We sailed from St Lucia to Isle De Saints (part of Guadeloupe), then St Kitts and finally to the BVI. I'd visit St. Kitts again - touring the island was pretty cool and we really only had 1 day. Saba also looked really cool - we would have loved to stop there, but didn't have time and we're passing in the night. St Eustatius is right in between as well. I haven't looked into either of the last two, but would think they'd be good stops. Nevis would also be another option close by. Assuming Moorings allows that - I'm not sure what restrictions they have.

Twoplates,
I meant to reply to your post in the SXM forum but didn't get to it quick enough. I've posted a few posts on the SXM forum related to bareboat sailing around SXM.
Search the SXM forum for DesertWinds over the last 5 years. As you noted, there isn't as much bareboat chatter on the SXM forum as the BVI forum. So, only two or three threads come up. They're easy to read thru and get some good info.

You'll have the ability to get around quicker, but I wouldn't push it. There's plenty to do on SXM, St Barts and Anguilla. You might want to look at going out to the remote islands north of Anguilla. They look interesting. Also, keep in mind my posts were pre-Irma. Much has changed.

We're heading to the BVI in May of 2019. Can't wait.
