Anegada land based trip

Anegada land based trip - 11/07/2018 01:09 PM

We're working on booking a land based trip to Anegada next February. Yes, we know it's a sleepy little island - we've been multiple times on a charter boat and have always wanted to stay more than 1 night. I've got flights into STT on a Sunday. Looking into flights to Anegada - VI Airlink has flights. Any other airlines I should look at? Do we clear customs on Anegada?
Right now, I'm thinking we'll stay at Ann's Cottages at Cow Wreck - we love Ann and her family and would love to support her business. Has anyone stayed here or seen them in person? The only thing I can't see from the photos on the website is what the view actually is and how far from the waters edge they are.
We're excited to be going back to the BVI's - in a different way this time!

Hi CottageGirl,

We have land based on Anegada for the last few years. On our way this Saturday! We use VI Airlink to get us from St Thomas to Anegada. For the 2 of us it is about $650 roundtrip. The cheapest I have found so far. Last year we had to go to Tortola for customs. Return was done in St Thomas. This year we will clear on Anegada. Ann's Cottages are brand new. She posted pictures inside and out on her Facebook page. They look very nice. When were last there in May, the roofs were just getting installed. We pretty much live at Cow Wreck while there as Belle, Ann & Andrew make us feel very welcome and the beaches are incredible. I do recommend you get a vehicle. Call Dean Wheatley @ 284-544-3703 (dwjeep@hotmail.com). He is about $60 per day. Well worth the money. He will meet you at the airport upon arrival on Anegada. Have a great trip!

I was land staying 6-8 weeks/year on Anegada before I moved to Tortola last year. I was typically flying with Ace Flight Center but I'm not sure they are back up and running since Irma. If you can get $650 roundtrip on VI Airlink that's the way to go. You should clear customs at the Anegada airport unless the VI Airlink flight stops to drop passengers in Tortola. Our flights were always charters so we had the whole plane and always went directly to Anegada.

I always stayed at Cow Wreck but it was before Ann's cottages were there. We loved the crowd during the day and the solitude at night. I did walk thru Ann's houses last month and they are very nice. No hesitation recommending them at all and you can't beat the price. If she happens to be booked, I have several other recommendations for you.

Definitely rent a vehicle from Dean and be sure to grab some of Henny's hot sauce when you are at the office.

Any other questions, don't hesitate to PM me.

Cheers,
Jason

Thank you both!
We can get 2 round trip tickets on VI Airlink for $630 total and I just learned that they flight out of the STT airport so we won't need to travel to catch that flight.
I'm going to book Ann's cottage today - they look lovely and Cow Wreck is one of our favorite places on earth. Ann and Andrew are always so friendly and welcoming.
We've rented from Dean before and will definitely give him a call to set up a rental for the week. Also excited to be able to visit our favorite restaurant - Wonky Dog - more than just once!
We're excited to slow down and enjoy Anegada - with a charter trip it always seems like we're in and out so fast.

Be careful. I started by giving up my charters for Anegada land stays and now I live in Cane Garden Bay. You are headed down a dangerous path...

Ha ha! We live on a small lake and own a larger boat for the big lake (Lake Michigan) . . . it would be hard to give this up completely!
And we'll still be sailing in the BVI's - just finding a crew who can go as often as we'd like is hard ;-)

Consider yourself warned. My larger boat on Lake Erie is going into storage this week. Your story is very similar...

Nice! We have a Carver voyager 530 - spend every minute we can in the summer on the water!

Too funny. I traded my Carver 570 against the Searay about 5 years ago.

Yep. She’ll be buying a place on Tortola soon.
