Restaurants - Menus

Restaurants - Menus - 01/17/2019 03:37 PM

As part of my duty as tour director of our group, I put together a binder that has menus from the restaurants on each of the islands we plan to visit. What I'm finding now is that many of them just use Facebook and no longer maintain a website that includes their menus. I would love it if those of you that are there or have upcoming trips would take pictures of the menus where you are eating and post them on here. We will be there on Oceanfront Property March 9-16. Thank you!

In the BVI's menus tend to change daily. There are different specials, different fish available. I lot of it is determined by what is available that particular day.

Sounds like an OCD task I would attempt but Colleen is so right. Don’t count on any menu. They try their best but their best is what is fresh and available. You won’t be disappointed.

I'm not counting on an exact menu, but something just to get an idea of what they serve, prices, etc. Thanks!

Wow...this is so OCD.... the opposite of what we do. We just show up and eat whatever is available.

I’m pretty sure Wonky Dog has a menu online.

Re: Restaurants - Menus - 01/18/2019 03:27 PM

We plan the dickens out of our two week sailing vacations. Actually, I create a full color many page personal cruising guide , inlcudes a brief manual on the 36i, full itinerary, airline , hotel, ferry, customs, navigation tips, provsions, list. Etc.

Also, full color sketch charts of marinas and harbors, reef passages, and where boat water and fuel are available, plus moorings, and slips, and places for provisioning along the way for added supplies. And fave snorkeling sites.

As to eating out. We can get a basic idea from the websites on the different beach bars and restaurants, and make a copy of what the restaurant or beach bar looks like, and usually can find a menu, or yelp or review of what the patrons enjoyed.
And all that info is outlined simply and printed up with the photo and put into my cruising guide.

This wlll be trip # 17, Restaurants, tiki bars, etc : Our info is mostly restaurants and bars that are shore side and beach and ocean side, and not inland. We will be visiting most of the islands, and not land bound, except for arrival and departure days. Our list would not be of much help. to the OP....

But, may help out others who are sailing the islands for the first time, and do not already have their favorites....

* Cooper Island Beach Club : always excellent, New to us....snugging up to the new Rum Bar and learning the history of Caribbean Rums, while doing a bit of sampling. Also snorkeling cistern point.

* THE BATHS, Virgin Gorda. We had a great time at the TOP O THE BATHS, view swimming pool, bar and restaurant. Other places near the marina are now open, recent visitors can update on that.

* Virgin Gorda Sound : LEVERICK BAY : Fine / Casual dining at the upstairs restaurant . We have found it excellent. Plus: Fri. nite, pool and beach side bbq, band, dancing, and mocko jumbies.

Scrub Island : Slips, view swimming pools, beaches, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, hiking, and CARAVELLA restaurant, collard shirts, have a sample DINNER MENU, looks great, and good reviews.

MARINA CAY: Another favorite, the old restaurant was pretty much whacked by Irma, they now have a cozy open air tent , next to the beach, great island views, and excellent service and meals. Possibly , live music, drinks dancing at Hill Top bar.

Little Jost Van Dyke and Diamond Cay : moorings for the B-line Beach Bar ( A first for us ) and happy to hear FOXYS TABOO is open, on Diamond Cay. One of Ericas favorites.

Great Harbor Jost Van Dyke :Corsairs and Foxys, plus for sailors, moorings, trash deposit near ferry dock, fresh boat water, and provisions and replenish the wine and liquor locker.

White Bay, Jost: Our draft is 6.5 feet, so we will moor at Great Harbor and walk over to white bay. The Soggy Dollar, Hendos, Gertrudes, and the other beach bars on the sand.

Cane Garden Bay, Tortola : The Elm, Myetts, and Quitos. Check for which place has music, they kind of rotate around.

The NEW WILLY T : She may still be in Great Harbor on Peter Island. The fun light is lit, and yankee pirates a partying.....we like the honey dipped chicken, and painkillers on the fan tail bar, and fun atmosphere. Basic rowdy.

Pirates Bight , Norman island....good food. Nice beach, dink docks, moorings, and toss in snorkeling the Indians / Pelican Is. and snorkeling the caves next to treasure point, Norman Is.

Just FYI......All of the above have websites. As to resorts, and inland places to eat, we just are not familiar with those, since our BVI experiences are varied , many islands, and are beach and ocean oriented.

The above is after 16 BVI sailing vacations, some things have changed, but we are looking forward to a most amazing and wonderful sailing vacation in a few months.

We love the BVI, the sailing, the islands, the people , and the overall party and positive attitude.

You all enjoy .

Denny and Erica

Good for you!! Prior to my trip, when I'm sitting at my desk and want to take a break, I enjoy looking at the places we might go and that includes looking at menus. We have no problem 'showing up and eating whatever'!! Thanks for your reply.

These are the ilons, things aren’t regimented like a Marriott or Hilton Chain
Just bring your credit card and don’t be fussy,if your group is fussy or with a million different types of allergies hop on a Carnival cruise ship where they’ll feel at home

Re: Restaurants - Menus - 01/23/2019 12:07 PM

We aren't fussy or regimented and we're not newbies to sailing the BVI. Why are some people on this board so quick to criticize posts? If you can't say something nice, then don't say anything.

Re: Restaurants - Menus - 01/23/2019 06:34 PM

On our 2nd or 3rd trip I made a binder that I would print out menus, cruise ship schedules, TTOL posts, etc. I would put them all in sleeve protectors and a 3 ring binder.

One of the guys that went with us called it my "Extra Credit Report". LOL

That was almost 20 years ago, he still teases me about it!
