American Airlines via WSJ

Living in Charlotte, an American Airlines hub, all I can say is amen.

Mo planes, mo problems. Significant weather effects over the year at their two main hubs surely was behind a lot of their issues. I’ve been flying them regularly through Charlotte for a few years and it’s been mostly without issue, aside from weather delays but those affected everyone else too.

I will be on a flight tomorrow that will cross my 4 million air miles with American, then on another American flight to St Martin/BVI this Sunday. In my years out of flying throughout the US, Europe and the Caribbean out of DFW, AA's primary hub, I can count the number of major issues created by American on one hand. Clearly, there have been weather related issues, but overall, I am one happy camper with their service. I am a a bit frustrated with the frequent flyer benefits which got hammered with their US Air acquisition that has resulted in too many fliers with too many miles to burn and the impact on upgrades that even impact my lifetime platinum status. That said, the schedules, cities served, and overall quality of aircraft (now that they have finally moved out the remainder of the well worn MD80 aircraft) keeps them in my good graces. And, as noted above, they are getting me to the Caribbean this weekend!!!!!!!

We also have been flying American for many , many years .......have not had any major delays . That includes several years of LIH ( lihue , kauai ) to LAX, to Mia ( or DFW) to SJU, We are now back on the Mainland in Socal, and just booked AA: LAX, MIA, STT. Then Ferry to Road Harbor, Tortola. Much easier.

American performed well for us, but we do not fly during the winter bad weather months, and thus be at the mercy of area wide cancellations or delays.

I also like that with american , we get our seat assignments when we book and pay for the flight .

Good for the OP, you all have a much shorter flight to the caribbean out of N.C.

Less time traveling, and more time enjoying the islands.

CestLavie , We really enjoyed lay - overs at DFW, Easy train ride to our new departure area, well marked as to where to go, good restaurants, friendly people, Made the lay overs pleasant and easy.

We are flying AA from PHL to EIS this summer. We have a 2hr layover in SJU on the way in and on the way home. I am curious how tight more experienced travelers through EIS feel this given customs/TSA. We only use carry-ons

I've made that trip through SJU with 1.5 hour layover. With carry-ons it was not a problem at all. Did not have to go through security/customs or even go outside.

if you connect SJU to EIS and use Seaborne they actually moved their gate right next to the AA drop off (by Margaritaville SJU). It was easy. On the way back Seaborne had dedicated customs so it was really easy. Using Intercariibbean in Feb and charter in May so I guess we can compare those
