Heading to Anegada

Heading to Anegada - 03/06/2019 06:10 PM

We have really enjoyed the conversation on this forum and wanted to get some opinions as we finalize our trip route. We are heading to the BVI in a few weeks and debating about the best route, including 2 days in Anegada. Typically most charter companies recommend a counter clockwise route and therefore heading from the North Sound to Anegada and then Anegada to Jost (which we have followed in several trips in the past). This year our route would be clockwise and heading to Anegada from Jost (of course this is weather and sea dependent). Since we will be on a power Catamaran, and not a sailboat, I would like other opinions on heading to Anegada from Jost vs the North Sound.
Thanks in advance
Mark

Depending on the wind direction you may be heading into a chop from JVD to Anegada. Other than that on a power cat no real difference. The mooring field at Setting Point has been crowded this year. If you plan to pick up a ball you will need an early start and plan to arrive before noon or earlier.

I have done 51 power cat up there from Leverick in Oct and Feb. Doesn't really matter from where you come as long as you get there by 1030 (at this time of year) or prepare to anchor or boatyball.

In October we actually had no winds and the sea was dead calm. Left Leverick at 800 and got up there and moored by 850. We were one of 3 boats there as it was 1st week of season

In Feb we had 22 knot winds from the East and 6-8 ft seas. It took us about 1 hr 15 mins... we picked up one of 3 open balls then watched the mass turnover around 1030

I do clockwise as you are doing with adjustments for events like full moon party and weather...
