Down island feedback? (Anguilla - Nevis)

Down island feedback? (Anguilla - Nevis) - 05/17/2019 01:36 PM

Apologize for the post here but thought I'd give it a shot vs the generally non cruiser/sailor St Martin forum.

I'm chartering out of SXM for 2 weeks in early June. I've got plenty of pre-Irma and Maria experience throughout all the Leewards down to Guadeloupe but would appreciate some insight from charter sailors (more so than live aboards) about any recent experience in places like St Martin but more so the less visited islands of Anguilla, Saba, St Barts, Statia and Saba - all of which I've spent a fair amount of time sailing a charter boat into and out of over the years, but none since the hurricanes.

If you give me the heads up here, maybe I could pose some more specific questions.

Thanks in advance if there's anyone that can help!

Best,

Kevin

We're headed over from USVI in a few days - hope to find out ourselves.

Hello BreckSailor,

I've just come up from a trip to Antigua (aboard another boat, since mine is hors de combat at the moment). Sailed by St. Kitts and from the water all looked as normal, short stay on Nevis where the Four Seasons and Pinney's beach is doing a lot of business.

Antigua is completely up-and-running again with no great post-hurricane damage visible (while Barbuda remains essentially uninhabited...).

St. Barths is busy with no hurricane damage apparent.

St. Martin, on the other hand, shows lots of damage remaining from the storms, but is on it's way to recovery. I didn't make it to my favorite anchorage/village of Grand Case but those I spoke with say there's little left of what it once was. The Dutch side is as busy as it used to be post-season and a lot of the old watering holes are back.
