Lobster fishing at St John

I know this belongs in the USVI thread but seems more people read the BVI thread. We’re heading back down to the BVI next month and plan on heading over to St John for a few days. Just wondering the best places to hunt for lobsters?

I know some will claim they find them easy to get while snorkeling but my experience has been that you need to be diving to have a reasonable chance of success. In general you need to look for a area with lots of available nooks and holes the lobster can hide in. A dive light is almost a must because you need to be looking under coral and ledges. Decent gloves are required and a tail snare will give you a greater chance of success. Most of the established dive sights usually have lobsters. In general I see a lot more lobsters in the USVI than the BVI. I think the commercial pressure is greater in the BVI. The area from Grass Key to Congo Key is usually pretty good.
