Croatia Charter Community?

Croatia Charter Community? - 09/22/2019 05:49 AM

Hi all,

Sorry for the off topic post, but does anyone know of a good resource for a group like this one for chartering in Croatia?

After four BVI trips we’re ready to try something different in 2020, but I’m sure we’ll be back!

Check with CaptJay. He did a Croatia cruise a couple of years ago.

We chartered a Moorings 4500 from Split in early July 2019. Great time.

Not a lot of info like this board, but i did use the following sites that I have saved:

jphart - Did you go north or south? Or two weeks and did both? We are doing a week and right now planning to go south. I'd hear great things about Hvar.

Kryssa...We did south from Marina Agana as follows:

First day (06.07.) - - Marina agana - swim stop at bay Duga on island Čiovo - anchored for the night in town just off Milna on island of Brač (dinner was at restaurant Palma)

- second day (07.07.) - - Milna - swim stop at Zlatni Rat beach on island of Brač near town of Bol - - sailed to second swim stop at island Zecevo near island of Hvar - - docked for the night at town Jelsa on island of Hvar. (dinner at restaurant mr and mrs Jones...sing the song!)

- third day (08.07.) - - Jelsa - sailed to swim stop Lucisce bay on island of Hvar - went to Zarace bay, caught a mooring ball for the night ( dinner at restaurant/konoba Gego)

- fourth day (09.07.) - - Zarace bay - motored/sailed to Green cave on island of Ravnik near island of Vis - went to Stoncica bay for a swim stop (lovely little bay) - docked for the night at Vis town ( went with a taxi to Komiza town, one of our crew did an organized dive, others walked and drank a lot). dinner at Dol (free taxi), tried the peka meal) Big storm came through Vis town!

- fifth day (10.07.) - - Vis town - due to the bad weather we motored, missed the sub hole, to Vinogradisce bay on St. Klement island or it is also called Paklinski otoci. (had a massage at Laganini beach bar, dinner at Toto's palmizana restaurant)

- sixth day (11.07.) - - Viniogradisce bay - sailed all day - went to fuel station in town Rogac (island Solta) - anchor with shore lines for the night at Necujam bay on island of Solta (dinner on boat...onion pie!)

- seventh day (12.07.) - - Necujam bay - went to Krknjasi bay on island of Drvenik for a swim stop - sailed to the Poljica for a second swim stop -great tacking sail back to base Marina Agana.
Trogir for a dinner at Don Dino restaurant.

We had a new 4500 on this trip, fully tricked out w water maker and ICE MAKER! We chartered the 4000 in Greece a couple of years ago, but the three ladies in this crew prefers en suite heads. Love the forward facing galley and front porch on both.

ASA has several guided flotillas in Croatia. We took one a few years ago and had a great time.

Had a great BVI trip at the end of May. It was good to see the islands coming back together. Here it is just 4 months later and I'm getting the bug again. Starting to think about another trip, but our regular crew wants to change it up. We've done SXM/St.Barts and the Grenadines multiple times, so I'm thinking Croatia. So it's good to see this string pop up. I'm looking for a little insight.
- Do the charter companies require the Royal Yacht Club (or EU) certification to bareboat in Croatia? I sailed a lot growing up and over the last few years have taken ASA 101, 102 and 104 with my boys.
- What time of year is best given Europe summer holiday crowds versus weather?
Thanks in advance and I'll take a look at the recommended websites/forums.

Hi
Here's a link to the qualifications that are acceptable for chartering a Croatian flagged boat in Croatia... https://mmpi.gov.hr/UserDocsImages/dokumenti/MORE/More%207_19/TABLICA_ENG_srpanj2019%205-7_19.pdf . USA Qualifications that are acceptable are on page 17 and 18.

The best month to go if you are not constrained by kids is September. Warmest seas and still, usually, good weather and less crowded than July and August. Naturally all Europeans also know this is the best month to go so book early if you find a boat you like.

Kryssa,

I've sailed there four times-- middle and southern Dalmatians (next trip will be Istria/north). Any questions for me?
Some observations:
First time I sailed Split to Dubrovnik-- too far, only allows for highlighting.
Has become much more crowded in last few years, but less touristy places can still be found: second time on Hvar and Brac, my crew preferred the secondary, less popular stops such as Jelsa and Supetar.
Vis is my favorite island; also recommend SIbenik, Pag, Mljet.
I know you stated you've reserved a cat, but a monohull, for quayside med-mooring, is preferable there. Also most charter cos. have more than one base; consider a one-way sail for a reasonable fee to see more.

sunbvi: Moorings' base is at Agana, not far from Trogir.

DesertWinds: Croatia requires VHF certification (thanks, all of you who have abused it!) in addition to a sailing license.

I always go late May/early June for the longer days versus Sept. First trip in late June it was 35C/95F each day!

Re: Croatia Charter Community? - 10/22/2019 03:04 AM

We are starting in Agana at the Moorings base. We are going the week of August 29, 2020. We were limited by work schedules so not a lot of choice. Thankfully it seems we will miss the peak weeks but still have weather and water warm enough for swimming.

Dad is the skipper on record and Mom has his ear, so when she demands a catamaran, the decision is made. Perhaps a monohull on a future trip with a smaller group.

May see you out there. Trip planned but not yet booked, on a cat, early September. Weather should be great and most European school summer breaks have finished by 29th August. It will still be pretty busy as it marks the start of the peak period for those of us unconstrained by school age kids.
