BinaxNOW Covid test kits - 08/17/2021 12:08 AM

Anyone know if the BVI and/or the US is accepting the BinxNOW Covid test results?

Heading to the BVI in three weeks. From DFW to SJU to EIS going, and EIS to SJU to DFW returning…

We already have the test kits, but are having a hard time figuring out who accepts what!

Thanks!!

The BVI does not accept any self-administered tests - even if supervised remotely (as the eMed test is). The U.S. does accept it . . . last I heard.

My understanding: There are two different Abbott Binaxnow Covid test kits. One is purchased over-the-counter at your pharmacy and the test is a 'self-test' (unsupervised). This one is NOT much good except for 'self satisfaction' that you do or do not have a Covid infection. The second kit is issued and proctored (supervised online) by eMed with posted results to an app you download into your phone. I don't know if it can be used to enter BVI, our crew obtained rapid antigen Covid tests at home (Walgreen, CVS, Kroger, etc.) which are often free. A copy of the results can then be uploaded into the BVI Gateway Portal for approval to enter the territory.

We used the Binaxnow eMed proctored test to return to St. Thomas (USVI); simply took the test on board our boat while online with the eMed folks, with results posted to the NAVICA app within a short time. We took a screen shot of the test results and uploaded into the USVI travel portal to obtain our green QR Code.

We didn't travel through SJU, so have no idea what might be required in taking that route.

BVI entry - not allowed
USVI entry - allowed within 2 days
SJU entry - allowed within 3 days

I used the EMED test both ways less than two weeks ago without any issue. It's the only test I submitted to the BVI portal, so unless something changed it works perfectly fine (if vaccinated). Flew from IAH-SJU-EIS and then return home.

Is this a new rule in the past two weeks? I personally used it without issue for entry into BVI via EIS and for the return trip to USA.

Nope, not a new rule. You just got lucky with an unobservant approver. I'm tempted to try the same.

Wow....and we had 9 people use it going to EIS and on the way back out to SJU. So if they accept rapid antigen tests for vaccinated individuals then why would the EMED test not work? I have seen so many people using it on facebook forums for entry and exit. If I were you, I would try as well. It definitely passed for the BVI and PR portals for entry. BVI Concierge didn't say anything about it nor did the BVI Portal approver.

Maybe they change their rules. When they started accepting rapid antigen tests for BVI entry they specified No Home Tests. Only tests from a certified lab and they gave this list of approved tests. That list was always kind of nonsense because the CVS tests aren't listed either but I've never heard of one being rejected.

For what's it's worth, the negative covid test results you get from EMED do show to be CLIA Certified on the paperwork which was one of the requirements I remember reading. Maybe that's the difference between the others. Perhaps it's similar to the insurance requirements stating very specific coverages....but many people have gotten by with just a generic letter stating COVID coverage.

Awesome info, thanks! I'm definitely going down this path.

Thanks all for the info!

The CVS testing results in our area is taking 3-4 days now due to the increase in the number of people getting tested…not good…

I think we’ll do both; use our BinaxNOW test kits as well as get it done at CVS and hope for the best!

People around here in Florida are reporting that it is impossible to get an appointment for a test. We're supposed to go to St Maarten the first week in October and SXM does not accept any at home tests, so I am getting worried about getting a timely test.

If you are planning on using a home test get them early. They are rapidly becoming hard to find.
