Spring Break Charter-Things to do for teenagers and kids - 02/18/2022 03:01 PM

We have a Marine Max 484 rented for April 2-9th with two families from South Carolina. 5 kids total. 4 boys ages 9, 14, 16, and 16 and one girl who is 13.

My one and only charter was 4 years ago with my wife and 4 couples in total for her 40th birthday. Needless to say we had a blast and partied hard.

This trip will be a little different with kids but we are all excited and I am the trip planner.

The 3 older boys love to fish and plan to bring a travel fishing rod. I brought a rod last time and only fished one night off the back of the boat and caught a nice big eyed Jack using a left over hot dog!
Any help and ideas for fishing would be great.

Here are some things I have in mind, but would love to hear from others.

Snorkel the Indians and Caves

Snorkel the Rhone

I need more snorkeling ideas/places???

Go to SABA for the tarpon feeding.

Go to Leverick Bay and rent a truck, go to Hog Heaven and hike down to the Baths.

Go to Anegada, maybe hire a fishing guide for the dads and boys and send the women to a massage and the beach.... OR....or hire a guide to take everyone to the conch mounds.

Go hike the bubbly pool.

Jost/Foxys?

What are somethings I am missing? Hikes, snorkels, entertainment, anything????

Thanks,

Bill

Sunday nights at The Elm on Cane Garden Bay are great fun..bar b q and great music with The Elmtones..not to be missed and fun for all. I have tired of Foxy's but for newbies its probably worth dropping by...like the food at Hendo's on White Bay.Renting a Moke or two on Anegada would be great fun for the kids...on to Cow Wreck. Book in advance for Mokes at Anegada Beach Club or by the ferry dock.

Make sure your boat is credentialed for fishing and that all who will be fishing have licenses.

When we were taking kids, snorkeling just past Saba Rock had some cannons strewn about that were cool. Yours are old enough to kayak and stand up paddle board. Hike up behind BEYC, there's a trail
Same at Norman Is. "Maroon" them on Sandy Spit for an hour. Last time we were there snorkeling off the beach at Cooper Is we saw a lot of fish and an octopus.

Be advised they'll be burning lots of energy and need to eat more often than the adults, especially an afternoon snack like mac n cheese, when you hit the beach bars in the afternoon just order some food for them with your first round of painkillers and when it eventually shows up put it in front of them, keeps away the grumpies.

The trails up behind BEYC are closed - I just spoke with the marina manager about this last week.

Re: Baths, I would encourage you to take your truck to the Baths at sunup....yeah, it's a pain to get everyone going that early, but completely worth it when you get to explore the area all by yourselves for a couple of hours....So glad someone suggested doing that here on TTOL when I read it many years ago. Catch Hog Heaven on your way back.

As a kid, I know I would have enjoyed jumping off the Willy T during the morning/day too....

Ivan's used to have a volleyball net and few soccer and volleyballs lying around, but that was many many years ago...pack a small inflatable football too if they like tossing one around....I still like to do that on beach and in water.

Have done this trip numerous times with groups of kids in this age range and always a blast. I will say that the adults don't hold back and still have plenty of fun (and painkillers) as well. We'll be there in May/June with five 14-17 year olds. Some other ideas not on your list:

Snorkeling: Cistern Point (Cooper), Monkey Point, Diamond Reef (at Marina Cay), Loblolly in Anegada (Flash of Beauty to Big Bamboo)
Scrub Island is a good break for kids to play in pool, hit beach toys, snorkel at Diamond Reef, Hike, and give adults a little time away.
Michael Beans a Leverick is fun to get into and get kids in Pirate attire (maybe gone by then?)
Surfing on Paddle Boards behind dinghy (carefully and not in mooring field)
White Bay is still a favorite - after a long day on the beach (and bars), we always get Pizza to go at Coco Loco or Corsairs for a relaxing night.
Love the Norman Hike
Always fun jumping off Willy T as long as it is earlier and not too wild.
As said, Moke's are fun in Anegada, and/or rent a safari truck for the day and pack them in the back. See the Flamingos, drive to Loblolly, then back to Cow Wreck and ABC on the back roads.
The kids always love dancing at Potters with Sam. We love it, but also have split up and gone to Wonkey Dog while they eat there.

My boys (16 and 18) could spend ALL day at Spring Bay jumping off the large rock.
They also enjoy:
Jumping off the Willy T
Friday night Jumbies
Necker Island tour
SUP's delivered to Savannah
Enjoying their first Painkiller at White Bay

Thanks for all the input.

Has anyone done the conch mound tour on Anegada with families? Is it worth it?

Every May I take a bunch of college age kids out...at the end I ask (1) what did you enjoy the most, (2) what did you enjoy the least, and (3) what would you do differently

It is surprising how much the kids enjoy just sitting in one place. White bay comes up a lot.

They really enjoy the Anegada tour...we use Captain Kelly. Either him or Sherwin is great

Get noodles at base for the snorkeling for safety and visibility in water. Flash of Beauty and Loblolly Bay Anegada is great to snorkel (start east and drift west). Monkey Point, Guana Island

You can hike up to Hog Heaven and then land taxi to Baths and Coco Maya for dinner that night is by far their favorite restaurant

Floating massage in Great Harbour JVD was great (used to be in White Bay)

Bubbly pool only if North swell

All IMHO

Maybe with SC residence you will get a Gamecock out of one of them to Wes's chagrin

Rob, what dates are you looking at for this May? We are thinking 21st - 28th.

I don't have it set up for 2022 my brother...might be the end of a streak. The wife wants a break from boating...

I will certainly miss you in your happy space and hope you and M are well
