advice on route from North Sound to JVD

Our guests have a bit more issues with motion sickness than anticipated, so we are going to take Anegada out of the itinerary and I'm considering the most comfortable route from BEYC to JVD. Forecast is for light winds ENE 10-12 knots, possible not ideal for sailing DDW, so will possibly be doing some motoring anyway.

I'm considering proceeding through the dogs, past Marina Cay, then Camano passage to provide at least intermittent protection. Seems like this only adds about 1NM.

Another alternative would be to sail down through the channel and around West End to JVD.

Again, motion comfort and overall time are the prime considerations. Any advice? TIA

I have done what you suggest in similar situation hugging coast of VG then breaking across to Caminoe passage south of the dogs with break at Monkey Point Guana to give crew a break then on to JVD

IMHO channel will be rougher trip with ENE winds

Your posted plan is best. Very easy on a cat. The boat will barely move. I would however with the winds finally dropping not discount Anegada. Should be a easy beam reach. It’s the pounding into the wind that’s gets some people.

I've done that run several times. Past Great Camanoe, past Monkey Point on Guana, beeline to the turn at Shark bay and hugging the coastline after that and turning towards JVD after Brewer's bay. Stay south of Sandy Cay and the exposure to a northerly swell is minimized. The route offers good wave protection for those passengers who are susceptible to vertigo. But the winds are also low on that route so the "iron genny" will see some use.

Thanks all, time is a little short too and jvd is a must do, so I'm hoping we will get there next time they join us. We still have 10 days after we drop them at Road Town, so good chance we will do another round and include Anegada. Need my jerk mango lobster fix 🙂

This worked out very well. Got an early 6am start from Leverick with guests still below (this had been discussed). Sailed two legs jibing north of the Dogs, then made a morning stop to snorkel at Diamond Reef which was very nice. Saw half a dozen boats on moorings at Marina Cay, presumably overnighters.

Pitched our way through Camano passage, past Monkey Point and a mix of motoring and sailing past Tortola arriving in Great Harbor early enough to spend the afternoon in White Bay.

Wind was more like 15-17. Nobody reported anything beyond mildly queasy. I think breaking up the trip helped.
