Tortola Marine Weather

Tortola Marine Weather - 11/18/2022 01:51 PM

What is the best source for Tortola marine weather? I was looking and could only find weather out of USVI / Culebra. Is there another source for something more accurate /closer?

I am asking as I will be down for 7 days beginning next Monday. Last year, we got caught in 10+ FT swells between Jost and Tortola (wasnt very pleasant). This year, I have the kids and think the wife might actually kill me if that happens again. I am seeing out of USVI Small Craft Advisories for mid next week.

Thank for the help!

Not a sailor, but I have found Windguru to be pretty accurate. Next Monday through Wednesday look like the kind of days we leave our boats attached to the dock: 30 mph winds from due east.

We use Windy premium. Has been the most accurate for us. I’d be finding someplace to be tucked in with winds like that….

to add to my friends suggestions....I guess the Xmas winds are in town. I assume you have the Xmas lights on RW?

Have a great holiday

Hope to get lights up by mid December. Are you coming down?

Thanks all, does look a little windy. Any experience with winds like this if I stay in south of tortola? I was thinking of making short trips while the weather is rough. What would west end to norman look like? Still passable without shock and awe?

I like the NWS marine forecast, covers the BVIs. Select the region on the map that you'll be in.

If you want higher resolution wind forecast maps, get a month subscription of PredictWind basic or Windy Premium. I don't think it's typically necessary though. I did subscribe for a trip recently, but that was because we were dancing with a disturbance that veered strong winds from E to SW. Your forecast looks rather straightforward.

If you need to go east to Norman, make the trip Monday vs. Tuesday if you can before the winds strengthen. Wave height shouldn't be too bad in the channel (~3 feet?), but they'll be coming at you fast which will make for an uncomfortable upwind ride. But, it's only for an hour or so.

How long do you leave those nav lights up RMW? We don’t arrive until 1/20….
