Return Ferry Question

Hi. I was wondering if anyone had thoughts on the ability to catch a 1:50 PM flight if we take the 10 AM Road Town Fast Ferry into CA on a Sunday in March. I'm debating whether or not we should book a private water taxi. Thanks!!

We go down to BVI through the ferries 5 to 6 times a year. Assuming the ferry gets you there at 11 am. I would say the time frame works. Concerns are if the ferry is on time or even canceled. In the last year, we never needed 2 hours at the airport. That being said,,,, we always take the 7:30 am ferry. Id rather enjoy a great breakfast, window shop, and be bored at the airport than the stress of not being able to get to the airport on time.

Our flight always departs at 2:30 and we still take the 7:30 AM.

Aquatic Rentals seems to get overlooked when people are considering ferries. They have an 8:30 RT departure that would give you plenty of time for a 1:50 flight. Last week I took their 9:00, which they’ve since changed to 8:30, and got to STT at 11:00. Breakfast and cocktails at Emerald Beach is a great way end our vacation. So we do not mind getting to St Thomas early.

Aquatic puts you in Redhook which is still quite a drive to the airport. The 7:30AM is direct right into Charlotte Amalie whereas the Aquatic routes through St John and then you still have that long and expensive taxi ride. So for the extra hour of sleep you get, you are stuck traveling alot more (and paying alot more too). We just paid $135 not including tip to go from the airport to the water taxi dock in Redhook.
This is all assuming you are coming from Tortola. Depending on the day of the week, that timing would help folks coming over from VG and Jost.

On Aquatic I was RT to STT in two hours, including clearing in on St. John and the cab ride from RH, so about 30 minutes longer than RT to STT via Charlotte Amalie. The taxi van from RH to STT was $20 including my bag, so $8 more than CA to STT.

We departed on a Sunday and including customs we were done slightly before 9AM. If you are a single traveler with one bag I can see that taxi fare not making you think twice but larger groups with lots of luggage would be paying well over $100+ in taxi fares more than just taking the 7:30. By the time we leave the BVI I am so sick of spending money I just want to get back as directly and affordably as possible.
I think it's great Aquatic has come onto the scene. Any additional routes are always beneficial.

Yes, it’s good to have options. There’s no one-size-fits-all, especially when there are multiple variables.

I go...early ferry..breakfast on the beach at Emerald Beach Resort and walk or cab to the airport ( about a mile)
