Ginger, Salt, Cooper Overnight recommendations

Ginger, Salt, Cooper Overnight recommendations - 02/24/2023 09:59 PM

We are chartering 11 nights mid-July on a BVIYC cat. First night will be Norman and last night will be Peter. We have stayed at Cooper before in the mooring field. Looking for any favorites on Ginger, Salt, or Cooper (not in the mooring field) which you would recommend for a nice overnight spot.

There is no safe anchorage at Ginger. You can anchor off the dock on the North Side of Salt in good conditions. At Cooper you can anchor past Cistern point in Haulover bay. You might have to fight the crewed boats there and there is only room for a couple of boats. Make sure you are not on coral before dropping. Benures bay on Norman is a great spot and now has mooring balls. Deadman’s bay on Peter is also excellent.

Thank you George. This is our 4th trip and wanted to venture out beyond the normal spots. We have several newbies and wanted to mix up the “popular” spots and the quiet beautiful chill spots.

We are planning on:
Day 1- Norman (snorkel Caves/Indians)
Day 2- Jost Great Harbor if we can secure a BB reservation (White Bay)
Day 3- Cane Garden Bay or Guiana- hitting Sandy Spit/Cay and then Patricia’s
Day 4 Scrub Island (snorkel Monkey Pt)
Day 5 & 6- Anegada (not sure if we will do Sherwin-have not done before. Will rent truck and tour the island)
Day 7 Bitter End or Saba (Sandbox or Eustacia sound)
Day 8 Leverick (rent truck for Baths, Mad Dogs and reprovision)
Day 9 &10 are flex days will let crew decide and weather buffer. Thinking Diamond Cay JVD or recommendation on Peter/Cooper
Day 11 Peter island for early departure

Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated

The balls at Guana (off Guana’s White Bay) are too close together and in poor shape. One broke several weeks ago (after a 62’ crewed yacht was on it). We spoke to someone from Guana and they indicated they were not being maintained (one has been without a painter since last year if that tells you anything) Anchor at Monkey for lunch and a snorkel but you might want to venture elsewhere for overnight. The balls at Peter (Great Harbour) are questionable as well - some in really rough shape. We like Long Bay on VG but it is now usually pretty full. Sigh.

Thanks for the info MIDiver.

I think we will stay at CGB instead of Guana. We are going to Monkey Pt for a lunch break and then over to Scrub as my wife loves the pool and shower there. Also good info on Great Harbor, Peter. It would be a bad way to end the trip to have a mooring ball failure on the last night. I'll look for an alternative for our last night.

Benures Bay, Norman Is. is a nice last night stop to enjoy a great sunset.

There are probably 8 to 10 maintained mooring balls. Someone will come over from the Bight to collect. Usually only 1 or 2 boats there.
