STT restaurant - 07/29/2014 06:46 PM

I'm arriving tomorrow afternoon and spending the 1st night in STT. I'll be staying at Island Beachcomber. I want to go somewhere nice to eat dinner...closeby...will have a car. Anyone have a place they can recommend in Frenchtown?

If you like seafood, recommend Hook Line and Sinker, possibly after a trip up the hill to Mafolie for a cocktail and to watch the sunset.

Oceana is nice and on the water. Bella Blu is nice but indoors. Hook, Line for their almond crusted yellow tail. Pie Hole for pizza and beer. Do you need some more ideas?

Portabello at the Best Western is pretty good and walkable.

Had lionfish & chips at The Twisted Cork in Frenchtown about a week ago. Yummy!

I always eat either at the restaurant at the BW Emerald Beach or the one at Island Beachcomber...just out of laziness. When I get off the plane I rent a car, check in 1 one of the hotels right there by the airport, get a drink (or 5) and lounge on the beach. Then I'm too tired/tipsy to go anywhere else to eat. I'm determined to check out something new this trip.
Is Oceana where the old Chart House was?

Hook Line & Sinker, Pie Whole Pizza (great beer list), Twisted Cork, Bella Blue, Betsy's Bar.

Hook Line & Sinker is a favorite because its right at the CYOA base and is solid, but these are all walkable once you park. Pie Whole has very good pizza and salads, with a beer list that is heavy on the Belgians. We had a great meal in June at Twisted Cork that was a bit more fine dining fare, but we could sit at the bar. We're schnitzel fans and Bella Blue has a variety. Betsy's has good bar food and good entrees at good prices. All have menus online.

Cheers, RickG

Food at Emerald Beach was average at best in June BUT was convenient for our one night stay there. While at Emerald Beach we met the young couple who own the new Rum Shandy Cabana Bar in Frenchtown. While we didn't have time to eat there they were nice and very proud of their cooked from scratch menu. Maybe stop for a drink and check the menu out and let us know what you think?

Yes. Sheesh, it hasn't been the Chart House for ages.

I used to live on STJ...in the late 70s early 80s. Back then there weren't many places to eat in Cruz Bay...Caneel, Café Roma, The Movable Feast @ Mongoose and some various West Indian places. The Chart House was THE place to go for all of us expats living on STJ. I went many times with various boyfriends over the years. It was another lifetime ago. LOL. I have very fond memories of that place.

I recommend the escargot at Bella Blu and then the shrimp scampi and sautéed spinach...omg...but stay away from the apple strudel unless you LOVE raisins...

Re: Chart House/Oceana...Well, the building hasn't changed much and the view is still great. The food is good. Maybe it would be a nice trip down memory lane...
