STJ - Places to stay close to town (no car) - 08/12/2014 10:37 AM

Looking for a rental for a week in March on St. John. Would like to be within walking distance of all of the restraunts. Can anyone recommend any place? I've been looking at Vrbo.com, but not sure of the location to pick.

Hi. It would help people make a better recommendation if you said which town you're talking about. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Smile.gif" alt="" />

Depends on your budget. Grande Bay Resort is on the hill overlooking Cruz Bay - you can walk to downtown and enjoy many of the establishments.

I am pretty sure it would be Cruz Bay since Coral Bay really is not "a town" it is more of a place. And a lovely place indeed.

There are villas, small inns in the Cruz Bay area. VRBO does have a good selection of the places available.

Here is a listing for some of the small inns available: Small Inns St John

I would recommend you rethink your no car strategy. Public transportation is very limited and riding in taxi will cost you a fortune for a week.

There are some beaches that you can reach on foot from Cruz Bay, but it is a hike. If I am mistaken and you are considering Coral Bay, not Cruz Bay, a car is a must.

Walking west from the ferry dock, up the hill and towards the barge wharf: St. John Boutique Hotel, Grande Bay, Lavender Hill, Gallows Point, Star Villas, Coconut Coast, Palm Terrace, Battery Hill, Hillcrest, Tamarind Court, St. John Inn. Samuel Cottage are a short walk up Centerline Road. Cruz Views is further along up Pocket Money Hill. Most of these are on TomB's link.

Walkable depends on the walker. I can walk Cruz Views and Hillcrest, my lady is not so inclined. It's a $5 cab ride at the end of the night.

I stay at Gallows Point several times a year and love it. Stayed at Grande Bay last week. Nice place but the pool was warm. We needed 2 bedrooms or we would have stayed at Gallows which is an easy walk to town.

Around $2000 for the week would be good

Lots of options. My friend has a studio at Grande Bay that just fits - VRBO 386808. We're staying in her 2BR for Halloween, One more that is available during your time frame is Banaquit right on Frank Bay, VRBO 484893 - great setting. Cruz View is a good bet.

Donald Schnell has two small apartments for rent in the heart of Cruz Bay. I have heard good things about them. Amore Loft Suite and Amore Loft Apartment

Ah, no fair, she edited the post after I replied, as you couldn't even tell which island to begin with! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

We just spent a week at Estate Lindholm with no car. Walk into town easy, we did use taxis coming back at night. First week long trip in the "big town," and loved it. Estate Lindholm is gorgeous, and the owner and his staff are first rate.
