Best value / security St Thomas / St John Marinas

Any advice on the best value / security for marinas in ST Thomas and ST John? overall- price / security etc?

There are no marinas in St. John, that I am aware of. As far as STT, Compass Point has a locked gate after 10pm and you need key access. AYH has some security guards but easy for anyone to access. Friends who keep their boat there have had no security issues. Most of the anchorages are in Charlotte and the surrounding islands. Brewers by the airport is very nice and quiet but no amenities. Not much in the value area, Compass Pt is $18 a foot for a mono and an arm and leg for WAPA. AYH was $30 a foot monthly or $1200 a month for a 40'. The folks we bought our boat from wintered at AYH, but you do get cable TV <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

So are you looking to stay a few days or more long term? Are you on a mono or cat? What's the draft? You will find it challenging to get into Compass Pt-Independent Boatyard with much over 6' unless you pay attention to tides.

I would think the best security is at Yacht Haven Grande. You can't even go out and look at the Rising Sun when it is docked. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Hairy.gif" alt="" />

Do you mean short-term anchorages? Or are you looking for a place for long-term mooring?

You could also try Crown Bay at Subbase or CYOA in Charlotte Amalie St Thomas.
Sapphire Bay near AYH in Red Hook has a private marina owned by the owners of the condos and most of the slips are empty, the owners will usually work out a reasonable arrangement to fit your needs, contact the dock master.

are there any mooring balls in Long Bay, or near the 'Yacht Haven area?' - Thinking that might be a nice day stop.

CYOA on the west end of Long Bay may have mooring balls to rent.
