provisioning suggestions for Puerto Del Rey - 11/03/2014 01:52 PM

Mainly looking for water and booze delivery to a charter out of Sail Caribe. They offer partial provisioning for $60 which may be worth it. Any suggestions for us newbies in PR? Gracias.

Puerto del Rey has a Thrifty car rental and about 3 miles down the road there's a Ralph's supermarket where you can purchase your food and booze.

$60 is a pretty good deal on provisioning. Walmart and Costco are also within driving range. I've heard of folks provisioning at Amigo Market, but with slim pickings. We're visiting the area next October on our month-long sail and look forward to hearing any tips.

Sail Caribe mentioned that the cabbie from the Airport in SJ would make a provisioning stop for us for up to 20 min. at no charge. Would be an extra $20 if it takes more than 20 min. which it is sure to do. Might be worth it for the 5 of us, but not sure how much energy the crew will have at that point. Might end up with 10 days worth of Mountain Dew and Pringles if we are shopping at that point in the day!

Ralph's is a huge supermarket with booze, wine and beer. If you can't find it there, it probably isn't available on the island.
It is on the way to Sail Caribe, about 10 minutes before you arrive and right off of the road.
As for the taxi's 20 minute wait........you will likely spend at least 20 minutes waiting in line and checking out.
Get the ice at the marina.

Just like Javeline stated, you will spend 20 minutes alone in line at checkout. You can always get another taxi to and from Ralph's / puerto del ray. I know the taxi from the Fajardo ferry dock to the Ceiba airport is on average $15.

Consider renting a car at thrift by the airport. Might work out cheaper than a taxi.
