Dinner on St. Thomas

We will be overnighting in Charlotte Amalie next week. Friends are staying just past Red Hook.

Where do you suggest we meet for dinner? We will use taxis.

There really is not much in between, except maybe Bolongo. There are some nice places on the north side, but out of the way for both.

What sort of dinner are you looking for? Iggie's at Bolongo is a fun casual place. Mim's, next door, is great fish and seafood right on the water. It's not exactly half-way between town and Red Hook, but pretty close.

Very casual on the east end: Tap and Still or ITP
A bit more upscale: XO or Fish Tails

A bit more upscale in Frenchtown, near town: Hook, Line and Sinker, Bella Blu
Also near town: the restaurants of Yacht Haven Grande (Fresh and Grande Cru), Cafe Amalie (in Palm Passage).
Wonderful dining in town: Banana Tree Grille.

Nice place with fabulous view is Mafolie Hotel restaurant: google it. It's above Charlotte Amalie harbor on big hill on main road going up & over to Megans Bay...Both hotel & restaurant great. Hotel about 3 or 4 smaller buildings/houses connected together, owned & operated by german family...

I second the Mafolie. The food is incredibly good and the view is spectacular. Also, the hotel is a great place for a short stay.

We love Mafolie too, but not quite close to Red Hook. The taxi from Red Hook would be a about $60 RT for 2.

Yes, that's the problem--these folks are just about as far apart as they could be, and be on the same island...

We're spending the night in CA before taking the ferry to VG. The other couple is spending 3 weeks in their location. Somehow we will make it work.

Due to that, I think it makes sense that they should come over to CA for dinner. I second Mafolie as far as the view, although have never eaten there. I would pay attention to Nutmeg's suggestions though, as a resident of STT!!

Agree with that since you're just there for one night and your friends are there for weeks. That way you're not wasting your last night on island cabbing it around. Just my 2 cents. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

If they are on the east end, then they will probably like the change of scene. I haven't been to Mafolie in years, but just heard some good words about it over lunch. Banana Tree is also great.

Since it only one evening how about Yacht Haven Grande in CA
they have a few Bars and restaurants, good security.
It would give you time for a dinner and then a few cocktails to make it an enjoyable but not time consuming so you can get on with your trip to VG in the morning. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />

Surely, if your friends are there for 3 weeks, they will have a car & be used to driving on STT! We will be there later in spring for 9 nights & we are renting a car -- wouldn't think of not having one!!

We've decided to meet at Yacht Haven on Wed. Then it will be dinner at Grande Cru.

We are heading to Virgin Gorda on Thurs.

Anyone know whatever happened to Seafood Jungle? Was our favorite for a good dinner out in Red Hook area.

Seafood Jungle has been closed for years and years, loved it too along with Dottie's Front Porch....that was a different era for sure <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/dine.gif" alt="" />
