St. Thomas - Frenchmen's Cove

We are staying at Frenchmen's Cove (timeshare exchange)in September. Any recommendations about restaurants, beaches, grocery stores, day trip to St. John, car rental, etc. would be helpful for us as we plan our trip. Thanks

definitely need a rental car, you are a bit off the beaten path. Get a rental company that allows you to take your car on the ferry to St.John.

The restaurants that are closest are in Havensight: Tap and Still, Smoking Rooster, Pizza Amore, Barefoot Buddha, and in Yacht Haven Grande: Grande Cru, Fresh, Fat Turtle. You are fairly close to Frenchtown where there are a whole bunch of other restaurants.

Grocery stores: Pueblo in Long Bay, Gourmet Gallery in Havensight and Fruit Bowl for fresh produce.

While you aren't really "off the beaten path", unless you are on a boat like Evan <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Wink.gif" alt="" />, you will need a car.

One thing: September is a very quiet month. You may be the only people on some beaches, but you may find some restaurants and bars closed.

Take the people ferry to St. John, much more reliable than the current car ferry situation. You could be wasting 1/2 your day waiting in line either way IF they are even running!

Also, the car ferry stops fairly early, so if you want to stay for dinner, you definitely need the people ferry. The last ride home from Cruz Bay is 11pm.

Zipline tour is fun if you're more adventurous. We liked it so much we've done it twice.

Megan's Bay is pretty.

Havana Blue for dinner is nice (but a little pricey).

We still have not gotten by Margaritaville, which is newish.

Iggy's Beach Bar is fun.

Fish Tales Restaurant near the east end is terrific.

I like knocking around in old CA for shopping, not the new Havensight Mall.

SOS Antiques is still my favorite store in the universe. Located on the waterfront.

Thanks everyone. This will be a lot of help. I wasn't sure about renting a car because when I was there in 1978, I was told that some areas are very unsafe and it was best to just use cabs. That must not be the case anymore.

If you use just cabs, you'll be broke by the end of the week. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/jester.gif" alt="" /> They charge per person and probably the minimum from the Cove will be $5 one way. If you are going to Red Hook to drink heavily and then drive back, you might want to take a cab. The biggest problem now is finding parking. LOL
