Anchoring Lovango Cay - 08/01/2020 07:14 PM

Anyone have any experience anchoring off of Lovango Cay? Just watched a video of one of the youtubers anchoring there but I don't see anything in the cruising guide or harbor book. Thanks for any tips.

Looks nice from a distance but it’s pretty rocky up close.

The south side of Lovango - where the dock and houses are is coral fields and not the easiest place to find sand anchorage - also the current towards the eastern side can be stronger than the wind and put the vessel up on the reef.
On the Northside - between Congo and Lovango there are quite a few places to anchor - again the current can be strong and contrary to the wind.
Of course the more keel underwater the more that the current will affect the vessel.

.

So I would believe that anchoring here would be best with settled weather and wind more from SE. Can you get comfortable with tradewinds from due east?

Looks like a nice place to experience.

Here's a note from https://www.facebook.com/groups/usvicruisers/?post_id=3368438163208812

"Fiona Russel - Good afternoon! 🏝 Recently, with the BVIs closed, we've had a stream of new visitors to Lovango Cay. Please help us protect what you've come here to experience:
🐠 Toward the eastern end of the island, there are five mooring balls, all maintained earlier this year. These are available to use at no charge when you visit.
🐠 A coral reef lies in the center of this mooring field. If all mooring balls are taken, please anchor in deeper water, outside of the mooring field, so your anchor rode does not destroy coral as the boat swings.
🐠 The mooring balls to the west (in front of the white cottage and farther west) are all private. Please do not use them.
🐠 If you want to throw a party, please consider anchoring in front of one of the uninhabited cays nearby (Mingo, Grass, etc.), where you will enjoy more privacy without disturbing other boaters or residents.
Thank you! Happy boating β›΅οΈπŸš€"

We've anchored in sand for lunch, but have not spent the night.

Cheers, RickG
