RickG or anyone else who has visited the Culebra lighthouse

Fingers crossed we are sailing next month. Packing light is a challenge for us but I am determined to go as light as possible this trip.

Walking up to the Culebra lighthouse - is it a teva/keens type of walk or should we take sneakers?

Presumably you mean Culebrita. For various reasons, we haven't been there since before Irma (4 years - yipes), but I've always used Keens, no problems. Great views.

Culebrita lighthouse - this might help

I was last there Christmas 2018, the hike has some cactus so I recommend good shoes, it is fairly steep in places and hot and dry, carry water.
We hiked from the big bay/beach on the North, for sure be aware of the Atlantic Swell

Sturdy flip-flops (such as OluKai) will get you to the lighthouse. Sneakers are overkill if looking to pack light. First 10 minutes of trail is packed sand, followed by 10 minute uphill dirt track with loose small rocks. Lots of goat poop at the summit.

If you anchor on the West side there is a road up to the lighthouse. It is pretty exposed, so bring water and a hat. I wore Tevas.

Cheers, RickG

Thanks all! We all have very sturdy flip flops (we are an Island Pro family) and will leave the sneakers at home. Good to know about sun/need for extra water.

Are you intending to visit from Saint Thomas?
If so how do you intend to deal with the Covid protocols?

We have our tests already scheduled to meet the USVI requirements.

Note that the SVI entry requirements due to Covid are separate from the USVI requirements.

Yes, I was asking about plans regarding entry into PR waters from USVI.

Assuming we don't contract Covid and the captain thinks the weather will cooperate, we can meet the current PR government requirements as it relates negative results test timing a visiting the islands. Because of our professions, we have constant testing and access to 24 hour turnaround results.
