Hi Folks,
Considering a trip to St Croix in Mid-May and have a few questions. Just my wife and I will be going. We are 60 and enjoy spending our days at the beach and usually hit the hotel pool for an hour or two in the late afternoon. We are not foodies and usually opt for comfort food while on vacation...subs, burgers, pizza, with maybe one night out for a good steak. We would like to be near a casino and shopping for evening entertainment. Would greatly appreciate your thoughts as to where we might stay and anything else that might be of interest to a couple of first timers. We usually take one day off from the beach to do an excursion....ideas for that would be appreciated as well. Should we rent a car? Would a condo rental make sense? We would definitely require a pool. Is May a good time to go? Any places to stay away from?

TIA for your replies!

We really enjoyed Protestant Cay, a 2-5 minute ferry ($5) ride. Great fish sandwiches, beautiful beach. Fun afternoon. We rented a jeep and did the island circuit, well worth the effort. Stopped and saw a few forts. A lot of history.

I would start with the casinos. There are only 4 on island and only two have table games. Just slots in the other two. Plan on a car unless you opt for a resort with a casino. Sailing to Buck Island, Cruzan factory and rainforest are some good excursions. We stay at the Marriott Carombola (sp) it is a good resort with nice beach, good pool, and nice rooms. There are some good restaurants on the north shore and it is a short distance to Christiansted
