NPS mooring system - 06/12/2023 08:47 PM

Virgin Islands National Park has announced that mariners who use the park’s mooring system can now make their payments online. Visitors can make these payments by downloading the www.recreation.gov mobile app and then using the mobile app to scan the QR codes that are located on all the overnight mooring fee pay stations that are located throughout the park.

You can add all your passes on the web site / app. This includes NPS passes and interagency passes for military and Gold Star Families. In order to pay for a mooring you must be on the mooring; no reservations.

Downloaded the app....can you not add moorings unless you're in person?

You have to be on the mooring in order to pay. It requires the specific mooring number. No reservations!

Thank goodness there are no advance reservations - can only imagine the chaos that would cause.

Spent a week around St John. Understand that you cant reserve a mooring. It would be better if it would allow you to pay thru the app without having to go and scan a QR code. Some areas don’t have readily available QR codes ( Hawksnest for instance).

We couldn’t find a way to just enter the mooring ball number without finding a QR code.

I agree Bob. I was disappointed to find that I still had to dinghy to a pay station to make an online payment. Faster for me to just bring the envelope stuffed with cash.

If the NPS could somehow eliminate the QR code so that you could pay without leaving your boat, they may find that their mooring revenues go up. I don't see many folks dinghy to the pay stations.

The park service brought us the QR codes to put on our boats. I will see if I can upload a copy. There are only two. One for the south side and one for the north side. We are putting them on the general information books on our charter boats.
