St. Thomas resort recommendations

St. Thomas resort recommendations - 10/28/2023 02:01 AM

We are looking for a resort on St Thomas with a beach which doesn’t get Sargassum seaweed. We don’t want to rent a car or take a cab to a restaurant too often so would love a resort with a nice restaurant. We’ve only stayed on Sapphire Beach. Many thanks for any suggestions.

Marie--I'm afraid that it will be impossible for anyone to recommend any resort that never gets sargassum. Unfortunately, these days, it is a scourge throughout the Caribbean. Some places are less prone to it, because of prevailing currents, but no place is immune. Hopefully someone will have a specific recommendation for you. Best wishes.

Thanks for the response, Carol. I was hoping that the south side of St. Thomas wouldn't get much sargassum, but that was wishful thinking. You're right, it depends upon the currents. We own time shares on St. Maarten on Dawn Beach and the beach is frequently inundated with it. Very sad.

No. If the wind is out of the South, the South side can get sargassum. One of our trips last year the South side beaches as well as Charlotte Amalia harbor had sargassum. It is very hard to predict as it is extremely local - one beach may have it and another beach a few miles away may be clear. Also, it can change quickly - coming in one day and sometimes, if we're lucky, clearing out a day or two later.

Marie--Yes, Dawn Beach is now almost the poster child for sargassum. It's a shame, but that beach is unusable a lot of the time. Hope you are able to find someplace good and don't have any problems.
