Best way from Red Hook to Anegada?

Best way from Red Hook to Anegada? - 11/12/2013 02:02 AM

I see there is ONE ferry the first Sunday of each month from Red Hook to Anegada. Aside from that, what is the best (reasonable) way to make a day trip there? Thoughts?

I'm not sure that's a viable day trip, quite frankly. There are a couple of options, and please remember, reasonable is relative.

1. Charter flights between Anegada/St. Thomas. My husband and I did this on our wedding/honeymoon trip as a special splurge day trip. We stayed on St. John, so we had ferry & cab rides on both ends of that day trip. We've also chartered flights between St. Thomas/Anegada when we stayed on Anegada for the entire vacation.

2. I think there used to be a speed boat that was available for charter.

Another option would be to consider spending more than a day on Anegada. Perhaps think about staying for a couple of nights so you may be able to catch the ferries between Red Hook/Road Town (BVI) and then Road Town/Anegada. The downside with that is the reliability of BVI ferries (we have experienced that personally and witnessed others who were stranded).

Feel free to PM me for more info. We've chartered flights between STT & Anegada, and we've done the ferries. Personally, the charter flights are the way to go, especially if you get a group together to bring the per person cost down. I believe Bill Hartzman on the BVI TTOL Board is a good resource for charter flights out of San Juan.

The first Sunday ferry is a popular trip for St Thomas folk. If you haven't been and just want to see what the fuss is about, it's a good first step. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Grin.gif" alt="" />

The other ferry routes require an overnight on Tortola.

Thanks Nutmeg. An overnight on Anegada is a great idea, especially since I'm in Red Hook for a couple of weeks anyway. I already know what Anegada is like. I was there on a charter a few years ago. Buddy who has also sailed in the BVIs has never made it there - coming down to visit me while I am in Red Hook and I really wanted to get there with him. Kind of hard to describe why Anegada is quite a bit different than the rest of the BVIs.

Day trip on a ferry is more viable than an overnight. The day trip includes round trip ferry to and from Anegada via Cruz Bay. An overnight via ferry means two ferry rides each way, and the Anegada ferry from Road Town/VG does not run every day.

We've done this by charter and ferry before, its a great visit. We either do day trips or 2/3 night stay at Neptune's Treasure.
