Loved it all but particularly the ones of Mullet Bay Resort back in the day. We enjoyed many a pleasant breakfast at the old Shipwreck on the beach when we were but 'kids' and our girls were growing up with us.......

The other snowy day I decided to look through old photos of SXM and discovered a couple of strangers staring back at me. Boy it's tough to get old.

Where was photo #3 taken?

I think # 3 was taken at Mullet Beach, prior to Hurricane Luis.

Cinci is correct. That was one of the Mullet Resort restaurants, The Shipwreck, which was their most popular breakfast spot, IMHO.

It seems to me it was originally located elsewhere a little further back from the beach and relocated to the actual beachside where this photo shows it after a fire destroyed the original building, perhaps in the late 70s or very early 80s? And believe me, I could easily be off on this.

And yes, this was another of the Mullet Bay Resort early buildings destroyed by the Hurricanes fury. It used to sit more or less where Rosie and DaLeos are today. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

This was even before we knew SXM in 85/86. "Old" is relative. So many memories. Loyal SXM visitors every year (even the uncomfortable hurricane years) since.

I loved them all but the photos of Mullet Beach with all the palapas still in place and in good condition brought back some great memories. And the one of Guana Bay as well - have you seen the area lately. It's one very different place, for sure.

Quality link - great to have descriptions with each picture. Baie Longue looks unreal. Our 1st time there was 1987.

That's what ORIENT was like when we first started visiting in the early 70s. Nothing but the sun and sand and some occasional sea grape and other beachside vegetation and of course, the Baie Oriental Nudist Club as opposed to the bustling area it is today......how could you NOT fall in love with that?! <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />

That's all I saw in 1987 as well. Our favorite beach on that trip was at GCBC.

Pat, don't forget the Gourmet Room, which you passed on the way out to that area. Also, the ice cream shop and the Mullet Bay Casino. The wooden path to the beach was a great spot for sunsets.

Thanks, wonderful! I should pull my albums out and scan some pics (kids..."albums" had these things called "photographs" that came from "film" and it had to be "developed". We waited weeks. Wow, the old drawbridge, no yacht club or all that stuff jammed along the road in Simpson Bay.


We stayed in the old MBBR unit by the Ocean Pool. Took the walk around the boardwalk to breakfast at the Shipwreck. Omelette chef. Yum! Fresh fruits. Yum! Used the shuttles to get around the property....never needed to leave if you didn't wish to. 5 restaurants, transportation, golf, shopping, casino, disco, bank, medical center, grocery store. <sigh>

When I see the big swells, I wonder how the heck did anyone decide to build there?

I love them all and remember many. Dawn Beach was pretty cool, particularly the first time you saw it. But of all these photos, which are all wonderful, I particularly love the goats/sheep sunning themselves on the boulders at Guana Bay.
