Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18

Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/02/2016 08:16 PM

For those who are stretching the looney or just what's left on their bank account, I suggest the following places where you can get a 2 course lunch for less than $18:

Thai Savanh - Starz Casino
Grill - Starz Casino
Brasserie Shanghai - Porto Cupecoy

Any other suggestions ?

I don't know the price, but I believe Le Taitu has a quite good, inexpensive lunch.

I'll sing the praise of Le Taitu's lunch special. It's 11.85 Euros, generally with a choice of 7 or 8 different plates (I prefer the French dishes). The plate itself comes with salad and starch, and the meal comes with a drink, wine and beer included, and a post meal coffee. I think this is the best deal on the island.

There's no way to go wrong with Yvette's lunches, which are priced the same at dinner. Goat stew or chicken for $10, including Johnny cakes, fries, salad and fried plantain. If you have more "expensive" tastes, $15 will get you conch or snapper dishes. The meals are very filling and we usually take some home.

For something completely different, try Ital's Freedom Fighters. While the plates are vegetarian they are both filling and tasty. I believe there's 2 sizes of the daily, one is $9 and the other $11. I found this place to be a welcome change to the Cardiologists' nightmares that I really like to eat.

And for a super cheap lunch, have some patties/pies and a couple of Dutch Coffees at Hilma's Windsor Castle. I think the patties are $1.5o each, and two are filling. Me, I prefer her stuffed johnny cakes, and 2 of those wonderful sandwiches with 2 coffees runs $13. And, if you get there when she isn't too busy, she's a great lady to talk to.

Lets see. Inexpensive food turns into an expesive one in a casino. That's why they offer it. Just saying.

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 04:27 AM

Scubaman, both restaurants that are located at the Starz Casino are outside of the Casino and are completely separate businesses from the Casino. Even in Vegas Casinos have stopped offering cheap food to draw people in.

Taking your logic further, when staying in SXM it's better to never go out at night because you could be tempted to enter a Casino ...

Try to be positive instead of throwing negative comments and ending by ... "yes saying it"...

You seem to know the island well, I am listening for your suggestions.

I am a positive responder. Just saying the logic most casinos have. Vegas isn't the only gambling destination in the world and it is a marketing strategy for most casinos along with Sxm.

Dilbert, please spare the mud slinging... You regularly tried to start arguments on another SXM forum and seem to have brought the same attitude here. There is no need for it! You seem to have some good knowledge about the island which is nice, but hurling baseless insults at those who disagree with you is a quite unnecessary and not really what the rest of us come here for.

Thanks,

i have been going to Thai Savannah for years, love the flavor compared to the other Thai restaurants on the island. It is usually a quick dining experience as there is no ambiance at all. We don't gamble.

Out of boredom it may be interesting to try The Grill, again no ambiance but we are always looking for something new. Our children live in the area.

We just made a reservation with our family joing us @ Shanghai Brasserie, a new dining experience & we are always looking to try something different.

Seems nice, but by reading the menu it doesn't seem to qualify for a 2 course meal for less than $18.-

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 12:43 PM

I can match two selections and come in under US$18.00.

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 12:50 PM

Maybe, but if you take any one of their Meat dishes and any one of their desserts, you are over $18.-

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 12:54 PM

Soup ($7.50) &_ Sandwich ($9.50) = $17.00

Hamburger ($9.50) - Banana Split ($6.50) = $16.00

Still 1:1 exchange

We'll have to try le Taitu this trip. Menu looks interesting and the lunch special IS listed at $12. It looks more authentic than a casino offshoot restaurant.

We have been to Yvette's and it remains on our yearly visit list.

Where is Hilma's?
Where do you park at Ital's (I know where that is)
And I agree, Le Taiitu is the best!

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 01:10 PM

As I recall Hilma's is situated next to a bank shortly after crossing the bridge from Simpson Bay, heading towards the airport.

Can't help with Ital's

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 01:35 PM

Yes but by French standards that's not a meal, it's a snack.
But even so, it's good to know.
Any other suggestions?

dlbert--you are being entirely too strict in your interpretations here and way too argumentative. Chill, or you will find yourself in a time out.

I have replied to you with PM which seems more of an appropriate way to discuss this matter.

Here's an idea. Try a six course meal for under $18.00. That's what I prefer for lunch. A bucket of beer. Can't go wrong

Seems as if two courses could be any two courses you desire...
I personally don't eat dessert, so an appetizer or salad and main are fine for me.
Funny that a Thai restaurant on the Dutch side in a casino complex counts as French dining! Lol

Gee, was French dining described in the original post? You can have two courses on the Dutch side or French side or anywhere in the world.

Les Entrees, Les plats & Les desserts is the true description on a French
Le Carte.

Re: Very good 2 course lunch for less than $18 - 01/03/2016 04:00 PM

Saw your earlier post about perhaps trying the Grill at Starz. We tried it one night on our last trip when we couldn't make a decision as to where and what. It was pleasant enough, reasonably priced and the food was much nicer than the offerings of the place that used to occupy that spot. Nothing 'special' but still enjoyable, and we got to do a little people watching as we sat there......

Hi Pat,

Just thinking maybe a quick bite if we have the little one with us. Although she has already dined in Grand Case.
And the restaurant was wonderful. And the diners never knew she was there.

Thank you,

Lyn

We always found the restaurants across SXM to be wonderful with regard to their treatment of the little ones. Lyndsey and Riley ate wherever the family did when they were les enfants and as they got a little older, even if there was nothing on the menus we felt they would enjoy, they were always able to order at least a plate of plain pasta. And little ones do learn what they live.....introducing them early they seem to grow up knowing acceptable behavior and live it quite naturally. And I know your little cutie would be welcomed everywhere......

Hilma's is between RBC bank and Palms restaurant, across the street from Rancho steakhouse.

There's adequate shoulder across the road from Ital's to park roadside.
