Carnival - 01/31/2016 03:24 AM

We are coming in February for the first time and I noticed that there are Carnival celebrations. Where is the Carnival Village that is listed on the program? Any other activities that you would recommend. We are there the 6th - 13th.

There is usually a carnival on the French Side in Marigot in February. Carnival Village is part of the Dutch side carnival in April in Phillipsburg. It is the biggest carnival and has many activities including a big parade.

Carnival on the French side started earlier this year, January 22 but I don't remember when it ends.

January 22nd to February 10th, 2016 : Come live the Saint-Martin Carnival experience ! A major moment of the year during which the city’s inhabitants go out disguised (even masked or yet made up) and get together in the streets to sing, dance, make music in the streets, throw confetti, eventually around a parade. The Adult Parade is in the streets of Marigot 12 noon on Feb 7.

The grand parades through the streets of Marigot are something to experience - sights and sounds. One parade is held the last Sunday of Carnival (February 7 this year) and the final one is held on "Fat Tuesday" (February 9 this year) the day before Ash Wednesday. Go to the link below, scroll down to where it says "saint-martin carnival 2016", then click on the link that says "Click here to see the program" and that will open the Carnival flyer. Even though is shows the grand parades starting at Noon, we've been several times over the years, and they've never started before mid afternoon.

Also, if you go to Harmony Nights on Tuesday night in Gran Case, you're likely to see some of the Carnival troupes
parading up and down the closed off Boulevard de Gran Case.
