Yea, was surprised to see that as well. I guess it was the change in perspective.

I wonder how sanctioned that was (permits?). Dangerously close to the end of the runway.

I hope this doesn't encourage others to do the same thing in such proximity to the airport. This was dangerously close to the departing flight path. SXM does not need a flight disaster caused by an out of control drone or one being flown into active airspace.

Hopefully SXM has a similar policy in place as the US FAA. Here is a link to the FAA pages concerning UAV operations: FAA UAV policy page.

In the US drone operations within 5 miles (or 10 miles in some cases) must be coordinated with the FAA tower and permission can be granted for a specific operation for a specific time with specific set of restrictions. Permission may also be denied.

Hopefully the UAV operator was in contact with the PJIA tower and coordinated his photo flight with them.

That is a very good point. I highly doubt the video was a coordinated effort as it looks like it was just done by a random individual, rather than a business or tourism dept.
The airport/goverment should really have more public policies for this.

NOBODY should be shooting drone video so close to the airport and we shouldn't allow it to be promoted here...

I didn't take this to be 'promoted here' any more so than most of the other things posted, but I do agree drones shouldn't be happening this close to the airport.

That said, and since it's already a done deal, I did enjoy the video. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/handshake.gif" alt="" />
