For the opening, you mean?? Can't imagine, with that crowd, that food or service would have been very good.

My guess is this is a club less restaurant. Bet at one point there won't be food served just drinks. Prob to compete with SkyBeach and Tantra

We went to restaurant last week and the food was not good. Also we went yesterday for late lunch because of the power outages on the Island and the food was just basic.

I read the Village People will be performing there on Friday, November 25th. It didn't say anything about the time or tickets.

I saw that in the DH. I guess they will have a VIP area maybe, but otherwise, not sure how they could even sell tickets, as it's not like there are many ways to block off areas, considering they will have to keep the road open.

We went to Taco Macho about 9:30. Holy cow!!!! What a mess the parking was!!! Don't know how they will get customers because there is no place close to park!

They seem to be relying totally on cruise ship passengers brought in by bus or cab.

I'm not so sure about that. My impression was that they were going for an evening vibe...competing with Tantra. Cruisers would be long gone by then.

Re: The Refuge - 11/18/2016 12:51 AM

Absolutely. The Refuge is an evening destination, which is not cruise ship pax at all.

Correct. Long gone.

Wasn't there some talk about ships staying in later or overnight a while back

My mistake; I thought The Refuge was the area with the pool, which was a more daytime destination. Isn't there plenty of parking in the Alegria lot?

Re: The Refuge - 11/18/2016 11:31 AM

Yes the Refuge is the area around the pool, at night it transforms into a club scene. Completely different than how it is during the day. I'm equating to more like SkyBeach than anything in the area. More bar/club than restaurant

I will have to check for lights tonight. It's been dark.
We did get a postcard on our car for grand opening??

It's crazy trying to get down the road during the day!!

Re: The Refuge - 11/18/2016 01:06 PM

There are a FEW ships that stay in until around midnight. However, places like this don't usually open until like 10 PM and don't really get going until way after the cruisers have to be back onboard. I am not aware of any ships that actually stay overnight.

Wow, that's cool. I didn't know that. I would be interested in checking out that itinerary.

Re: The Refuge - 11/18/2016 05:02 PM

Carol they were open at night while we were on the island but definitely very few people when we would pass by in the dark. We had read In the Daily Herald that the grand opening was 11/16 and also about the Village People appearing on 11/25.
