JetBlue WiFi

JetBlue WiFi - 01/12/2017 01:40 PM

Now complete on all aircraft, gate to gate and FREE.

Article from Afar Magazine

Quote

JetBlue has offered free in-flight Internet on most flights for some time, but it has just completed outfitting its entire fleet of Airbus and Embraer aircraft with gate-to-gate “Fly-Fi” wireless Internet. It is now the only airline to offer such a fast speed on every flight, to every passenger, at any time while on board.

Edited to add: note: it is subject to the same issues as live TV...only for domestic airspace so our BOS-SXM flight will drop it after around 2 hours or so.

Just saw this on TV this morning. I guess now planes are not going to crash if you leave your phones on. (They never were)

However I did always follow the rules, no matter how silly.

I always loved that scene from Independence Day, where the father and son were on Air Force One and was on his phone and he said that he didn't think Air Force One would crash because he was on the phone. <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/Laugh.gif" alt="" />

We've had problems with the wifi and their direct tv on flights to SXM, too. JB was aware of it, and actually credited us (I think it was $15 per/person) for not having access to it.

For us from Florida, we only ever had it for like the first 45 minutes leaving and last 45 minutes coming home, because of no signal.

I always thought the wifi on planes only worked over land, because it uses cell phone signals.

The Direct TV only works over land, that's why we had it for only a short time. No idea on the wifi..

WiFi on planes also uses satellite https://www.viasat.com/

Yup, and, as stated, it only works over the continental US...same as the live TV

The comment I replied to stated they believed that commercial air wifi was only provided by cell service. I simply stated that airline wifi is also provided by satellites and provided a link as an example. Viasat does has international service as well as gogo that is another provider of airline wifi service. Gogo was originally cellular only but now has satellite international service also.
