Robbery in Maho... - 03/02/2017 03:12 AM

We were coming thru Maho yesterday after having dinner at The Blue Fin restaurant and decided to stop and walk a bit... The Riviera was robbed just a few minutes before we showed up... There were a few cops, forensic unit, couple of private guards with dogs .... We were able to take a look inside the store. A few broken showcases, glass everywhere . The shop owner said that nobody got hurt. And this is the most important. Happened around 9:30pm.

I was having diner at Bajatzu outside overlooking the shop. A man with a shotgun smashed a window and tried to get away with the cash.Several tourists where at the scene and gave statements to police.

Police arrived 15 minutes later followed by forensic.

The night before it was a gas station on Bush road.

Kuchi is still on the run so it could be him...

Divico is a small wholesale style market in the remains of an older supermarket, about a half mile from the Carrefour.

Since I used to go into the Carrefour (ex Le Grand Marche) on a daily basis, I'm alarmed that these type of crimes are becoming so prevalent I miss being there all winter, but the thought of such brazen robberies is pretty scary. My last two trips this winter I left the island right away for St Barth. No guns there I guess

Many yachts spend thousands of dollars on a provisioning trip and lots of them pay in cash. Plus, many locals choose to pay in cash as well. Ripe pickings for the desperadoes. Good luck all and stay safe.

After re-reading the Carrefour article does anyone find it weird that the main interest of the robbers seemed to be getting the unarmed security guard into the bathroom AND staying in there long enough for a 991 call to be made and to have the police arrive?

What ever happened to "This is a robbery ...give me the cash" and then disappear?

Just me thinking out loud... <img src="http://www.traveltalkonline.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />

Have to have eyes behind your head these days. Been going to Island for many years, and now we are pretty much home bound when we go. daytime stuff, and now even that's not safe... Well since they have no clue how to curb crimes, this will go on and on. Very sad for those that have been a target of crime, and all that have to be so careful... It is what it is.
